Description: It may be too cynical to assume Hybrid Theory changed its name to Linkin Park in order to appear right next to Limp Bizkit in your local record bin. But rock-rap workouts like "One Step Closer" and "Papercut" do make Linkin Park a comfortable fit with Fred Durst and his ilk. Producer Don Gilmore (Pearl Jam, Lit, Eve 6) and twin vocal threats Chester Bennington and Mike Shinoda serve up industrial-strength rap and rock melodicism with equal aplomb on this woulda-been-self-titled debut effort. "Points of Authority" aims to sound like Trent Reznor wanking it up with Lars and company, whereas guitarist Brad Delson's Edge-y harmonics help "In the End" and "Pushing Me Away" evoke a dark romanticism akin to A Perfect Circle. Curiously, the band gets by with no bass player, while sample-happy DJ Joseph Hahn's step into the spotlight on the instrumental "Cure for the Itch" suggests a potential for eclecticism that could help Linkin Park outlive its seemingly transient genre.

Manufactured radio metal
The top thing that annoys me about this band is when someone classifies them as metal. They aren't, and why they got that spot in Ozzfest one year is a mystery to me. Oh, wait, it was probably money. This CD is agonizing; I bought it a LONG time ago when I was really diving into the realm of music. And when you do that, you're bound to make a few mistakes, this was one of them. Pop crap on a plate. A lot of people don't know that when they became a band, Chester was chucked in by the record company, he wasn't part of the band, they were manufactured by the record company. That's not a real band. The lyrics do not have any swears in them, thus supporting the idea of being a tool for the record companies and attempting to get as much singles as possible. They also didn't; have a bass player at the time, and speaking of which, the bass is barely here at all. I was brought in because I liked the song One Step Closer, but I swear that if I hear In the End, or its crappy remixes, one more time, I'm going to snap. There is nothing here but cliché teenage angst. A few friends of mine don't agree with me one this, but they are willing to admit that Linkin Park is or was a guilty pleasure.
They manage to pull of the raping thing her to some degree, but by the time they came out Nu-metal or rap/rock was basically dead. This band will never be able to live up to this Hybrid theory record. No band that has releases its first album and become a smash hit right away can live up to it or survive. Look at their new albums for proof. Heck Metallica needed to get to Master of Puppets (their third album) before anyone took notice of them, and then they too, went into a downward spiral and sold out excessively. Don't look to Linkin Park for a good band; you're just up for a disappointment.
The best CD of all times!!!
Well, this cd became my favourite right after I heard it for the first time (a couple of months after it was released) and it has been my favourite since. I never heard of them before, but it said where I bought it, that their music was somewhere near Limp Bizkit (which I really liked then). So I bought it. And loved it. It's much, much better than any other band in this nu-metal genre. The best thing about Linkin Park is, that they have two singers. Mike with his rapping and Chester with his rocking. They're just a great singing duet. And the best thing about Hybrid Theory is, that there isn't any bad song on it. It even doesn't have any mediocre song. Every song is awesome.
My favourite song is definitely Runaway. It's an excellent mixture of rocking, a bit of rapping and a little screaming which gives it that perfection.
Right after Runaway are Crawling and In The End. It goes the same for those songs as for Runaway. But there is also a part with piano in the beginning and in the end of In The End, which is what makes it so good.
In the song A Place for My Head there is a great beginning and more rapping than in other songs. Pushing Me Away starts easier but the chours is great rock , with a bit less of rap in it. One Step Closer is a pure rock song with no rap. By Myself, With You and Forgotten are great mixes oh hard rock and quite some rapping. In the song Forgotten there is even more rapping. It's similar with Papercut, which is a great opening song, with really cool beginning. And in the end, there is Cure For The Itch, which is completely different song. It's instrumental song, with lots of sampling DJ Hahn (that's my least favourite song, so I give it only 9,9 out of 10).
This cd is just awesome from beginning to the end. Yeah, that's my favourite one.
