Reviews:

For the light pop yes...but beyond it?

I think I am in minority when I see all the praise-showering reviews and zillion hits will I receive on the negative button. But I have to say this: Is this what pop should be? Yes, Kylie's songs are memorable, danceable tunes with decent production but when the hot times of the single or album diminish away, what remains left? Is there anyone who does not think that "I should be so lucky" is an extremely repulsive cheesy song? So don't you think "Can't get you out of my mind" will sound cheesy after a few years (even now gets no further airplay, because it is simply not a "classic"?) I mean pop should revolve around more meaningful lyrics, less naked asses, and less excellently good looking dancers jumping on the background? In any video-clip, Kylie is almost half-naked, barely covering her wonderful body- all songs are plenty of ýhh oohhhs sýýhss sexy sounds etc etc Isn't this one of the reasons - almost the most important one- why several of you buy her albums?

IMHO, this kind of cheesy pop is the main factor why the disastrous times of music, I mean rap, hip-hop, are prevailing... It started late 80's, reached its zenith in 90's...If you want cheesy, brainless but fun pop just to dance and jump around but to forget everything you hear a few months later, Kylie of course offers high quality...at least her heart is in it...she knows her limits (vocal, artistic etc) and tries to do what she does best...but if you want real brainy pop, go for Pet Shop Boys, Depeche Mode, New Order, Air, and some Madonna albums...with meaningful, thought-provoking lyrics, mind-boggling tunes that do not sound cheesy even after 20 years. Yes, these guys or bands have no asses to show off or they do not sound exotic or reflect Ibiza-pools atmosphere but they are real talented...and if you are willing to be in tune with modern times, at least go for Anastacia's last album...with much insight than all the sexy Kylie offerings have

From cheesy starlette to dance diva

It's already seventeen years of Kylie Minogue's career. This compilation shows the whole evolution of this artist from cheesy starlette to dance diva. This is a UK edition of this title (with all the songs from standard international version, but in chronological order).

It's hard to believe today, but Minogue recorded her first songs only because someone asked her for doing it. The rest is history. She became one of the most famous artists in history of music, even though unfortunately she didn't manage to achieve this status in the U.S.A.

And that's just the main reason to buy this double CD set here in the States. It's about time to discover her most important works which made her an icon of pop culture outside this country.

This set contains 33 songs, including 2 brand new - especially marvellous "I Believe In You". The first disc sums up 1987-1992 - the years of creative captivity, when Kylie sang all what she was told and she had nothing to say because everything was under control of extremely successful UK producers Stock-Aitken-Waterman, whose simple catchy songs then conquered the hearts of teenagers all over the world.

An the second one sums up 1994-2005 - the years of music freedom, independence and above all maturity, when Kylie started to discover new sounds and also brand new audience, what brought her a big respect in music showbusiness.

In general we can find on this set almost all from thirty nine Minogue's UK singles, but it's very weird, because in total there is over half an hour of free space, so all the singles could have been put on it. The biggest mistake is a lack of astonishing 1991 hit "If You Were With Me Now" recorded with Keith Washington.

Anyway, it's a well done compilation, which Kylie's American fans should buy at once to discover at last why she is the second Madonna overseas.

Great compilation

I'm not a hardcore Kylie Minogue fan who goes out and buy every album she released, so for someone who enjoys all her recent hits along with early hits, I believe 33 tracks on 2CD, is a really good way to have all of her hits in one collection.

The first CD is a nice hashback of her early hits, and deserves a couple of spins once in a while. Her 2nd CD obviously encompasses all of her recent hits, along with a few songs that I've never heard of such as "Confide in Me", which has a great middle eastern dance flavor, "Breathe", and the incredibly stunning finale "Where the wild roses grow" with Nick Cave. For someone who has only heard songs from Light Years, Fever and Body Language albums, "Where the wild roses grow" is a welcome change and surprising delight of a dark, dramatic, 60's like ballad with great lyrics, and Kylie's breathy vocals. I'm thoroughly impressed that she can be versatile if she wants to be.

I enjoy Kylie Minogue's music, she makes fun, easy to listen music. It's what she's good at, and I'm looking forward in hearing more of her material in the future!
