Reviews:

Kylie's Best

Let me start my saying that this is Kylie's best album to date.

I do not own her first four albums, although I can say that Kylie Minogue (1994), had some really good songs, but some were just boring and repedative

*this is when Impossible Princess is released* (1997)

The follow up is 2000's LIGHT YEARS which is poppy, and sold well, still the corny Kylie.

Fever was just straightforward pop, with some very catchy tunes

Body Language had some boring R n B, although tracks 7, 10-11 showed the RnB Impossible Princess

This album (Impossible Princess) showed the more mature, original and diverse Kylie. I am a huge fan of Bjork, and I like Kylie. Some are so unique, they could also suit Bjork singing them, instead of Kylie.

It begins with my favourite K.M song of all-time (which is the only song that Kyie has written all by herself) TOO FAR. It is myseterious and extremely original and weird. I epecially like when the thumping base line comes in at the beginning of the second verse -- you will defintaly find yourself tapping your foot to this one!!!

Next is the cool and again original Cowboy Style which was the fourth single - Australia only, and then the disaponting (and lowest charting Kylie song, even though it was the lead single), and then it is the upbeat DID IT AGAIN, and BREATHE (they both peaked at #14 UK, and were the 2nd and 3rd singles respectively)

SAY HEY and DRUNK are dark and mysterious.

I DON'T NEED ANYONE could fit in well with the Light Years album, it more upbeat and Did it Again-ish.

JUMP and LIMBO are some of the two standouts on this album.

Through The Years is okay, and the album ends with the fantastic Breathe.

Therefore, I strongly recommend this album in anyone's collection.

She Did It Again!!!!!

Kylie's most underrated album and the most psychedelic and strangest album (Listen to the tracks "Did It Again", "Drunk", "Through the Years", "Too Far", and "Limbo" and you will understand my opinion) is called "Impossible Princess". There's quite a few popular live tracks if you think the quality of the album. "Limbo", "Did It Again", "Cowboy Style", "Breathe" has sometimes been played...and of course most of the tracks in the Impossible Princess tour...but quite a few has been left for the later tours. Maybe because this is a weird album, not a typical dance pop album, this haven't sold so good. There has been a couple of well-known hit songs "Breathe", "Did It Again", and "Some Kind of Bliss"...but they didn't reach the top of UK single list. There would have been many songs that may have entered quite well in the single charts..."Limbo", "I Don't Need Anyone", "Cowboy Style" but they were never released as singles. "Dreams" has quite beautful violins...that's why it's great. Other tracks have that kind of adult thing that they are like "Kylie Minogue" -album...this was the sixth Kylie studio album and "Kylie Minogue" was the fifth, so you can guess they are quite near each others.

Stars: Limbo, Did It Again, Some Kind of Bliss, I Don't Need Anyone

Take a journey into impossibility...

You know as a "Fever" convert Kylie fan, I've really enjoyed in amassing all of Kylie's backstock. This is a good way to get a general feel for what Kylie's basic music texture is: stylized pop.

Many people don't know that there are records that exist beyond "Fever" & this is one of them. Plucked from my favorite era in Kylie's overall career, (musically, visually, creatively), "Impossible Princess" is an electric ride into the mind of a woman on the brink of self-discovery & self-destruction.

What makes the record fascinating for me is Kylie's word play. There are no Shakespearan sonnets of that sort, but the use of language & sentence structure to describe the feelings of loss, romance (heated or cool), & a general sense of wanting more from life is awesome. These words match the urgency of the music around them. Musically this record isn't as polished as her previous deConstruction record (Kylie Minogue) but at the same time the odd, yet never mishapen blends of dark electronica, Indie-lite, house, & rock work well. Brothers In Rhythm (Kylie's production team during this period) as well as Manic Street Preachers helped produce a record that could be electic, yet sound unifed.

Some dismiss this as Kylie's way of trying to go reputable, but she had done that with her previous record. I found, and if you do your Kylie research, Kylie needed to record this record to exorcise her personal demons. She didn't & never has said "Oh, this is my serious record." She has always let the music speak for itself.

People in the position to share their feelings & do it openly are extremely blessed. This way others (like myself) can pick up the record and compare our lives. While Kylie has gone on to more slick production of the Parlophone era, in favor of sales, this record stands as a testament of a woman who can & did express herself. And did it well.

For casual fans this record may be hard "to get", because it isn't as accesible as most of her other work. But if you take this record for what it is & digest it...you'll see it for the amazing work it is.

On a personal note, this record has become one of my life soundtracks, due to the fact that I've begun to have experiences similar to what Kylie spoke of on this album.

Nice to see someone make a pop record with a bit of depth.

Also I recommend picking up the "Hits+" compilation if you are more curious about her deConstruction period (1994-1998), which was poorly covered (missing two integral singles from this period for both albums respectively) on her recent "Ultimate Kylie venture.

Very artistic and daring album

The original edition of the album 'Impossible Princess' is excellent. You get 12 tracks and a really good taste of Kylie's deconstruction years! This, however, has a 3-D cover and is very limited. It includes the amazing bonus track 'Tears' and also has 2 holographic prints of Kylie which are just so beautiful! You may be thinking you don't want to spend $39 on this CD, but if you're a REAL Kylie fan, you know you want to!

You can also get the re-mastered edition which includes a bonus disc with 12 tracks, 9 remixes and 3 brand new tracks including 'Tears'! Buy now! It is a great buy! Just pick it up!

Not as good as it is hyped to be

Impossible Princess is not that great an album I'm afraid, not as much as it is often hyped up to be, I don't know why many people make such a big fuss out of this album, it really is highly overrated.

I think it's highly regarded by the fans since it's the first thing that kylie has done that isn't of the usual cutesy bubbly pop standard she mainly churns out.
All of sudden people think it gives her the right to be taken seriously as an artist, but it's just highly contrived, and it looks as if kylie tried desperately to jump on the Britpop bandwagon that sweeped the UK in late 1997.

IP isn't anything unique or that out of the ordinary, people had done this before her to a better standard. It's Kylie trying to cast herself in the Bjork/Tori Amos scenario. Unfortunately, she just fails, because she is not them, only Kylie Minogue.

Her fans no doubt will love this though, but you've got to forgive them a little! they don't want Kylie to end up as this little manufactured pop starlet she came to be known as singing other people's songs forever more, and just be known for being a bit of alright.
It's justification to them that Kylie has something more to offer and that there really is more than hot air in her head. Personally, I think Kylie does the cutesy girl pop icon thing we all came to know and love better.
The IP thing comes across as slightly pretentious if you ask me, and it sounds as though Kylie is desperate to be liked, like she is trying far too hard to appeal to older people.
5/5 for the effort though, but it just falls flat in the end in my opinion.

So, so good!

Impossible Princess is easily Kylie's best CD. It's a mature statement of who the woman is, how she feels, and why she acts the way she does.

The music itself cannot be classified into a specific genre. Songs range from having a rockier feel (Some Kind of Bliss, I Don't Need Anyone), to being dancier (Tears), to being trancy (Breathe). The only constant factor in each song is a feeling of greatness. Each and every song is fantastic, and Kylie very obviously knows it.

I recommend this CD to almost anyone. It really is a fantastic album
