Chock Kittie up there with Otep as one of the worst...
Unless you are a pissed off, ugly female, you won't like this music; check that, you shouldn't like this music. Sorry everyone, I don't see the luster of this band. Overproduced vocals, stupid, boring music and most of all, that laughable screaming that is obviously overdubbed over and over and over again to give the female voice the faintest hint of testosterone. It is a joke. Female metal is a joke, and this band is no exception. There is some cheesey music out there folks, I agree. The 80's operatic metal sound is cheesey. The supposedly angry rantings of a 30 year old Corey Taylor is cheesey. The cookie monster growls of even the best heavy metal bands can get very corny. But nothing, I repeat, nothing will ever be as laugh inducing as a female screaming at the top of her lungs in an attempt to be hardcore, or metal, or whatever. It is the biggest joke in music today. Right up there with all the boy bands, the pop-starlets, and the idea that is rap music.
Most of you, in an attempt to get back at how correct I am, will hate me for what I have said. And thats fine. By the way, if you want some very good music that is far superior to this, check out bands like Between the Buried & Me, Mastodon, almost anything from Relapse Records, aka DEP, etc, and if you want something a little more mainstream, give Shadows Fall, Unearth, and Killswitch Engage a shot. They are far superior to Kittie. (In more ways than one). hahahahahahaha.
Kittie is over
That's right. Lisa and Jennifer quit the band. Morgan and Mercedes claimed it was because of issues with the label, but I think it was because those two are absolute b####es to work with, why else would you explain the loss of three other memebers in a three year time span? This album shows how Morgan was trying to cash in on the metalcore trend and try to make an alternative rock album at the same time, with disatrous results. Banal guitarwork, sub par drumming, so-so basslines and TERRIBLE vocals. Morgan went from a bad nu metal choke(no pun intended) on Spit to a decent death metal growl on Oracle and finally she's trying to pull off a raspy black metal influence rasp sort of like Dan Wyandt from Zao, and it just sounds bad.
I used to love this band because, well, they where girls and I was a girl. But I was a girl with underdeveloped music tastes, both heavy music and otherwise. I've matured since then, and I realized that these girls where really part of a manufactured(their fathers run the show basically) bandwagon hopping trend and their marketing as an all girl band was secondary to their music.
This proves girls can rock out.
In an effort to add more female artists to my collection, I heard about Kittie through a close friend of mine. I heard "Into the Darkness" and decided to check them out. I bought Until The End and although not blown away by it, it wasn't that bad. My metal collection is rather limited, but this album makes a fine addition, and it proves girls can indeed rock as hard as the guys. It's a good album if you like Kittie, but for real good heavy metal, I'd look elsewhere.
