Before the collapse
This album is amazing. It gave you a taste of what was to come, Alive or Just Breathing, their masterpiece. This album however, is much more raw than the latter. Jesse is the most amazing metal vocalist I've ever heard, and his voice alone would make this album a 5. He blends clean vocals, highs, and lows seamlessly and his lyrical content is meaningful and positive.
This and Alive or Just Breathing to me are the only true KSE albums. The band died when Jesse left and Howard "Emo" Jones joined. End of Heartache is emo metal radio garbage, and Howard's lyrics are about love and heartache of all things. He admires the band HIM so damn much(he has their heartagram tatooed on his arm)hes turning one of the best metalcore acts into emo crap.
Anyone who is into metal or metalcore that isn't watered down for the masses or for raido play should pick this up instead of End of Heartache.
KsE Are Still Strong!
Don't read that guy's review underneath mine. Killswitch Engage still have it, even though they now have some members from Blood Has Been Shed. Even if they did get nominated for a Grammy, they didn't win. This band is not sold out and you know it. Sellout bands are Green Day, Linkin Park and Hoobastank. I hate it when people say that Killswitch Engage collapsed.
Anyways, this CD is a classic for the heavy metal generation. This CD was released in July of 2000, when "nu-metal" was the big thing. No one knew about them then. Even if a lot of people know of them today, they can still shred it! "Temple From The Within" and "Vide Infra" are two examples of classics off this great CD. Every track is brilliant. Buy this album, along with the other two albums. "The End Of Heartache" may have some cheesy lyrics at some times, but it's the music that counts. Buy every album from Killswitch Engage. They will grow on you.
When did KSE get so BIG?!
Gah, first off...I am just wondering where all of this "KSE being the biggest band around" nonsense came from. I remember a time when this album is the only album they had out and I had to order it online because nobody in the stores even knew who they were. Man do I miss those days. In my opinion, this is even better than "Alive Or Just Breathing." Its much more to the point, and more heartfelt. And Im not even going to get started on that new cd and vocalist they have. Sure, the production on this album isnt quite as good...but its not like its bad, at all. In fact, it sounds much more raw and aggressive without sounding like a crappy demo. The lyrics here are the best to come out of any metal band in history (ya, i said it...I want to hear a rebutle from you iced earth fanatics). Metal doesnt have to be negative, and people keep forgetting that KSE were the first band to be doing any of this new american/positive metal. Of course, they were the first to sell out as well, but none the less...their first two albums are still awesome. So go ahead, bash on the new singer, bash on the new album....I do....but don't use the same arguments for KSE's first two albums because they just dont hold up. Fact is, these two albums with Jesse (gah, I want to cry so bad that his lyrical and vocal talent left) are masterpieces. Another side note for all the iced earth/iron maiden fans who keep ripping on bands like shadows fall, and KSE....I dont like my metal ultra cheesy. Iced Earth is not good. They are the opitome of cliched, corn ball, cheesy as hell nonsense. Bottom line, this is one of the most amazing records I've ever heard (given at the time, it was new, original and highly refreshing).
