Don't front: Clarkson brings the noise here. The Internet is full of former indie-rock types sheepishly admitting that "Since U Been Gone" is now, like, their favorite thing on the radio. It's a sweet, bracing, swooping bit of power pop. She even verges on punk in that "YEAH, yeah" in the chorus. P.o.'d! Avril Lavigne sounds dull and whiny in comparison.



Kelly has demonstrated that she's a pro. Now she needs to decide who she really is. She and her writers should ditch the ersatz R&B on her album, lean to the fast four-four, and supply us with more killer breakup tunes like this.
