An overrated, over hyped R&B screamer!

I have watched the hype surrounding the first big AMERICAN IDOL winner, Kelly Clarkson, ever since she first emerged on the show performing a great big band number. I had big hopes for her becoming a new, great, youthful voice on the music scene that currently is dismal, sick and pathetic with it's over abundance of hip hop, rap and just plain trashy music and no-talent singers. As she continued to perform on IDOL her choice of songs and her vocal stylings began to show more and more of her lack of vocal training and music disciplines. She began yelling, sceaming and growling during many of her performances, hell bent on making an R&B performance out of almost every tune she sang. It has definitely taken it's toll on her voice. She is strained on most performances, somewhat flat on higher tones and her pitch is always lacking. At the rate she is going her pipes will be shot in another two years. I have since caught her guesting on many shows and the vocal strain has now become a regular part of her performance. The incessant "vocal runs" in place of holding extended pure tones on ballads is boring and irritating to say the least. It is a dead give away to lovers of of pure vocalizing that such a singer just can't sustain pure tones for any length of time. They cover it with such "vocal tricks" but it doesn't fool anyone with a trained ear. The best thing Clarkson could do for herself is study with a good classical vocal coach to learn the correct way to sing and breathe, salvage her vocal chords and then listen to some really great singers like Charlotte Church, Sarah Vaughan, Jane Monheit, Doris Day, Ella Fitzgerald and Keely Smith. She hopefully will learn something from them.

Kelly Clarkson, The Diva of American Idol!

This single is amazing! It shows off her voice so much! I totally love it! I wish though that Kelly's album showed off her voice as much as this single dose! But Kelly Clarkson is one true Diva! I want her to win a grammy so bad! And she should have won that Grammy she was up for! Kelly Clarkson will always be a diva of American Idol, and beyond! I give her single 5 stars, and her album 5 stars!
