Reviews:

Great!!

Not your heavy-duty tango from down Argentine way, but S-M-O-O-T-H relaxay-voo, cocktail-lounge tango that just melts and flows all over you. This is one of Julio's best. Starts with "Hernando's Hideaway" and gets better as it goes. Julio sure is more cool than Enrico, but then again, who isn't?? As the master himself would say:"Oink a'la plop-plop, phooey, phooey and fizzee!!!" And I agree....

Terrific Tangos From Iglesias...But It's Not Gardel!!!

I absolutely adore tango and no one does it better than the brilliant, and charismatic, Carlos Gardel. That said, or opined, I will now move on to Julio Iglesias and "Tango." Although this collection is not typical Iglesias, he does make music that works...and it is smooth! He brings his own style of Julio to the tango, and the combination is magical. He sings with passion and drama, although not with the eroticism, edge, nor the Argentinean flavor of Gardel. The selections in this collections are perfect to showcase Sr. Iglesias' talent, and to make the listener want to get up and dance.

Some of my favorite cuts are: "A Media Luz," (that I find myself humming at the oddest moments), the nostalgic "Volver," and "Adios Pampa Mia," and the soulful " Caminito," and "Yira...Yira." This is a a wonderful collection for Iglesias fans and all non-purists who love tango.

Who knew?

Dance teachers spend lots of time agonizing over appropriate tempo tangos. No, seriously, we really do. A great tango isn't always a great choice for dancing. Let's face it: Argentine Tangos, American Tangos, and International-style Tangos are not all measured the same way, or danced anywhere close to the same style or technique (well they are, but dancers know what I mean). This is one of those surprisingly useful CDs to a lover of American Tango. Timed right and oh my gosh not boring music. Julio is about passionate interpretations of these tango standards, and the depth of emotion slows the tempo a little to make this great stuff for American dancers (again, who knew?). The bonus is it's all upbeat, friendly material that will not snooze students or other listeners. There's a lot of strict tempo CDs out there that should be burned as a public service to the art of tango and dancing in general. I should state immediately that not every track is a good dance selection, but I use at least five of these for classes. That's a windfall for Tango. Argentine enthuiasts need look elsewhere, like the Tango Project, maybe. There's a few tracks on here with lots of slow places and set-ups for choreography. Worth putting in the Tango Collection...
