Description: Like other successful bands of the 1970s and 1980s, Journey's sound was built on the double threat of singer Steve Perry's upper-register vocals and guitarist Neal Schon's melodic solos. The band also used rich harmonies to embellish their hard edge.
Greatest Hits shows that Journey knew how to craft a pop song with memorable tunes like "Anyway You Want It" and "Don't Stop Believin'." "Wheel in the Sky" was one of the band's more arty singles, while "Lovin', Touchin', Squeezin'" relied on a straight four-bar blues pattern, with Perry's vocals at their best. The band's power ballads gave them their biggest success, and are rightfully represented here: "Faithfully," "Open Arms," and "Send Her My Love." Another unlikely aspect further secured the band's success--you could actually dance to some of their stuff, especially "Anyway You Want It."

Reviews:
Cringe-worthy crap
Just the type of band that the Ramones were trying to do away with. Every Journey song is annoyingly bad, getting stuck in your head for about ten weeks, until it drives you insane to the point of wishing you were dead (and I wouldn't be surprised if a few people killed themselves due to this). Nothing makes me laugh harder than when somebody calls "Any Way You Want It" or "Don't Stop Beleiving" hard-rocking. Up there with U2 as one of the worst bands ever to hit it big.
dreck, dreck, dreck, dreck... NO stars
I can call on no higher authority than that pull-no-punches pair of misfit music critics, Beavis and Butthead. Their opinion of Journey? "If this song was a turd, it would be the same thing." Check the names of everyone that gave this 5 stars, then look for them at the top of the dork list.
Ever wondered what dog poop sounds like on a gold disc?

Militainment!
This is garbage, true story.
CNN - City Boy (Lonely World) samples the Don't Stop Believin jawn and that's knockin nahmeanyaheard.
Heatmakerz!
SACD does not mean surround!
This person wrote a bad review because he said it was only in stereo. Not all SACDs are in surround, but even the stereo ones have better sound quality than a regular cd, if you have the right equipment! Or maybe the problem is you're listening to Journey!
SACD Release
This release shows all the promise of SACD. The sound quality does not embody the harshness of standard CD but is warmer (remember vinyl) as I remember it to be. However, there is more musical detail and definition I did not hear before in vinyl. As a result, there is more intimacy with the music. It would have deserved one more star if it was multichannel 5.1 (why not, we always want more). Aside from this, it is a real pleasure to listen to this SACD release.
The Best of...
Journey's Greatest Hits is just that, there best hits from "Infinity" to "Raised on Radio" with the inclusion of two soundtrack songs that were left off of "Escape". The quality of the CD is excellent which adds to the quality of music at higher volumes as if you were at one of the concerts in the 80's. A must have for any Journey fan.
