Reviews:

Disc 1 is 5 stars. Throw disc 2 in the garbage!

I love this CD, disc 1 that is. It has all their big hits! I always loved their music back when I was a junior high kid. It brings back great memories. Reminds me of those junior high dances and skating rink nights but I really love listening to them now that I am older. The first disc is just a collection of great, great music! This CD is a 2 CD set but they second CD really is a bunch of songs you probably never heard or that got much radio play. The first CD is great to chill out with playing LOUDLY with a glass of wine in hand when you want to relax! If you love Journey its worth the 20 bucks just for the Disc 1 alone!

Disc 1 Is Great; Disc 2 Not So Cool

At out of all my favorite bands of the 1980s', Journey was my favorite (I would have said Heart but they were from the 1970s' originally). They had killer songs, great live shows and some cool music videos (anyone remember the one for "Separate Ways"?)

"The Essential Journey" is a two disc collection that collects all of my favorite Jounrey songs on one disc (more on what this means later).

Journey was one of those rare bands whose best songs were their singles, as disc one proves. Before anyone argues with me, take a look at some of these songs: "Open Arms", "Any Way You Want It", "Lights", "Who's Crying Now", "After The Fall" (probably my favorite), "Separate Ways", "Faithfully", "Don't Stop Believin'", and "Only The Young" are just a few of their best songs, and all of them were major hit singles. Also, lesser hits such as "Wheel In The Sky" and "Ask The Lonely" get their due. It's also nice to have the 1996 smash "When You Love A Woman".

The remastering of these songs makes it hard to believe that some recordings are over 25 years old since they sound so clear. I mean, just listen to how pristine Steve Perry's soaring voice sounds. Listen to how fresh and vibrant those killer guitar solos sound.

Disc 2 on the other hand is nowhere near as good. There's only two songs on here that I like, the 1986 top 10 hit "Be Good To Yourself" and the 1996 reggae number "Baby I'm A Leavin' You". Other than that, I wasn't really that fond of this disc. I probably would have like it more if they'd included "Walks Like A Lady", "Suzanne" and a few songs from the Steve Augeri era.

Overall, the best Journey collection on the market, even with disc 2. My advice is to pick it up and listen to it (you might wanna give disc 2 a chance, since I'm sure people will have a different opinion on it than mine).

Ewwww... I think I just threw up in my mouth

I can call on no higher authority than that pull-no-punches pair of misfit music critics, Beavis and Butthead. Their opinion of Journey? "If this song was a turd, it would be the same thing." Check the names of everyone that gave this 5 stars, then look for them at the top of the dork list.
