Description: That Jessica Simpson has been groomed to become the next (as well as younger, whiter, and more virginal) Mariah Carey should come as no great shock. Production by slavish imitation is the way it goes these days, and wanting to duplicate Carey's success is understandable. Yet the downside of idol worship (Simpson grew up with the octave-conquering diva as a touchstone) is the loss of unique identity, and sadly that's exactly what has occurred. From the wordless sighs to the mock Spanish guitars added for international appeal, to the overwrought power ballads and faux hip-hop flavored up-tempo cuts, Simpson, who
can sing, is a prisoner of by-the-numbers production and songs by the usual pop/R&B-lite suspects. The end result is sonically stellar, but is too close to a generic endeavor that does little to establish Simpson as an artist. Still,
Irresistible will no doubt firm up her already serious stats as a rising young star.

Reviews:
A cool pop album!
First off, I want to say that Mariah Carey has a 7 octave range while Jessica has a 4 or 5 octave range but that doesn't mean Jessica can't sing!! Jessica may not be as good as Mariah Carey but I still really like Jessica Simpson's music and singing style especially more than Britney Spears. I especially like the songs Irresistible, A Little Bit, Forever In Your Eyes, There You Were (with Marc Anthony), What's It Gonna Be, When You Told Me You Loved Me, To Fall In Love Again, For Your Love, I Never, and His Eye Is On The Sparrow. I love the whole CD and it's a lot better than most of today's pop stars CD's. My all time favorite song from this album is There You Were because it's a very beautiful ballad and I love the end when you think it's over but it's not.
Undeniably Creative
I totally disagree with the editor on this one. Jessica comes through on this album and has more sing along tracks then Mariah has. Though she still gets into the yelling and hitting high notes like crazy its still a great album. She has allot of single tracks here too, the power ballads play a smaller role on this album. I think Jessica has an awesome ballad voice though. What kind of irks me about this editor is that, as soon as we get someone as talented as Jessica Simpson. Someone that can sing as good as Mariah Carey but not better. They down them, I mean give the girl a break its her second album. She is not Mariah but she can stand on her own two legs. Now Mariah can't even do it like she used to. So give it to the new girls!
where'd she go?
WHERE THE HELL IS SHE!! I FEEL BAD FOR THIS 1-HIT-WONDER....DO SOMETHING JESSICA...GOODNESS I HOPE HER MOVIE DOES WELL....SO AT LEAST SHE MAYBE SHE'LL ACTUALLY GET ANOTHER HIT!!
