Reviews:

1995 Version of Jefferson Starship

This is a reissue of a CD called "Deep Space/Virgin Sky". Only the 5 best songs are missing, including a fantastic tribute to Papa John Creach by Marty Balin.

Jefferson Airplane/Starship reunited again in 1995. It was Paul Kantner, Marty Balin and Jack Cassidy from the original group. Thee were some very good additional musicians, including Tom Gorman on keyboards and vocalist Darby Gould. Grace Slick also showed and sang on all the old hits.

Most of the versions of the hits are nothing special. But on some songs, Gorman does add some nice new keyboard intros. Grace Slick does a 5 minute monolog about her arrest for waiving a shotgun at the police. It is fun to hear once, but you really don't want to hear it again. But, the biggest problem is that the new material from the original CD is missing and that was the best part. I would give the original (Deep Space/Virgin Sky) 5 stars. That is the CD to get if you can find it.

Most of this group stuck together through 2000. They released a studio ablum in 2000 called Windows of Heaven. It contains studio versions of two of the new songs on this CD (Shadowlands and The Light).

Dead: Miracles

Well, JA/JS are at their predictable worst, live in concert. Maybe if they had straightened up, like for their studio sessions, the music might have been passable, but unfortunately it's not. Don't get me wrong: JA/JS is my favorite band, but not in concert. Stick to the studio recordings, like Surrealistic Pillow, Dragonfly, Freedom at Point Zero, and/or Modern Times (in that order.)
