Reviews:

Soul Brother and the Father of Funk!

It's difficult to distil the very best of James Brown sine the man has been so prolific over five decades with countless albums and a plethora of classic songs. It opens with the passionate I Got You (I Feel Good), continues with the super funky Get Up and then it's into the gorgeous It's A Man's World with its wonderful lyrical twist. And there's Super Bad, the sax-driven Cold Sweat and the buoyant Get Up Offa That Thing, surely the blueprint for P-Funk years ahead of its time. Not to mention the brilliant Hot Pants with its propulsive rhythm and soulful eroticism. The album ends with the tender and moving Please Please Please. This is a great selection but would have been better with the inclusion of legendary songs like Night Train, Papa's Got A Brand New Bag, Soul Power and Say It Loud. Nevertheless, five stars for the quality material. James Brown sure is Soul Brother Number One and the Father of Funk!
