...james is my boy; he doin it, fareal, yall! now this proly aint his best stuff, but maaaan,... i think a man be done tried jus about anything! (yall feel me? - proly not...)
anyway, the ballads on here is the lick! mr. brown is rollin'...the only drawback is the latin-tinged 'please, please, please'...that and that 'when the saints...' mess!.... maybe tomorrow i wont e'en like this at all or maybe i might jus go out and buy this again jus for the hell of it! (it's j.b. pourin out his soul!!! feel this!).

ESSENTIAL MASTERPIECE IS RIGHT!

I'd get this cd just for the MIND BLOWING "CAN'T STAND IT 76!!" This track starts out strong and just builds and builds with those incredible horns and a great solo by Maceo Parker. One of my favorite James Brown tunes. This cd also shows what a genuinely talented singer James Brown is with slow tracks like "These Foolish Things." The music style is pretty varied so there is something here for everyone to enjoy. I knew very little about this cd and now I love it!

Essential Masterpiece!

Every James Brown, heck, every music fan should own this disc! If you want an album that is going to transport you back to the gritty urban street vibe that is the 1970s then step into this Hell. James Brown's Hell is pure heaven. The title track is a massive attack of classic funk that drives it's killer groove deep into your being. The song features several breaks and solos that capture that 70s police chase vibe found in various movies of the time period. The third track, Gimme my Thang, is a progressive funk dance track that was far ahead of it's time. Why this track isn't amoung the Godfather's greatest hits is beyond me! Overall, if you don't own any of Jame's albums and are looking for one to begin with than Hell is the perfect place to start. Hell is an essential classic for any funk or dance music fans music collection.
