Reviews:

Iron Maiden's Greatest Achivement

This is Maidens best album(to me anyways) it was their peak, now some people might dissagre, but after powerslave maiden started going downhill. Now almost every single song on here is great,it is packed with Dickinson's energy,Smith and Murrays epic riffs,Harris's unmatched talent and Mcbrain's powerful drumming.

This album contains most of maidens commercial singles, epic and powerfull tunes, and some fillers. Now when i say filler im talking about iron maidens standards,if these filler songs would be writen by anyone else they would be considered great. You defenietly get your moneys worth-the album cover is powerful, the songs are timeless and All the band members are at their peak, what else could you want from a cd.So buy this masterpiece and worship IRON MAIDEN.

Not one of their best

I don't understand the hype with this album, and I am a huge Maiden fan. In my opinion it is one of the weaker releases with Dickinson. However, it still has great tracks I enjoy listening to like 2 minutes to midnight, aces high, powerslave and rime of the ancient mariner. Losfer Words is also pretty good, but not as good as previous instrumentals. Also, I find that the other songs on the album are weak. If you are a huge Maiden fan I understand why you would buy this album, but if not I suggest checking out the self-titled debut or Piece of Mind, both which are better overall in my opinion.

Slave To The Power of Death

In my opinion this is Iron Maiden's crowning moment. I know most fans feel "Number of The Beast" is there best but I feel the songs on here are so complex that from a musical standpoint this cannot be topped. I have always loved Steve Harris's bass playing style. Not many bands where the bass is used almost like an alternate guitar. "The Rime of the Ancient Mariner" may be 13 minutes but it never gets boring because there are so many time changes it's almost like 3 songs in one. Great CD.

SLAVE TO THE POWER OF IRON MAIDEN !

Powerslave was the breakthrough album in America for Iron Maiden. With such classics as Aces High, 2 mins to 12:00, Powerslave and Rime of the Ancient mariner there's no wonder why. The quality of the production is unsurpassed and, musically, the guys went to the maximum of their capabilities.

1-Aces high : The ultimate album opener. Fast and furious with a killer chorus. A masterpiece that is just uncomparable. 10/10
2-2 mins to 12:00 : It takes a special song to follow Aces high. 2 minutes does it great. 9,5/10
3-Losfer words (Big `Orra) : A very melodic instrumental piece. 8,5/10
4-Flash of the blade : A super fast-paced rocker. Very solid. 8,5/10
5-The duellists : Very unknown and underrated song. The guitars and bass are just amazing. 9/10
6-Back in the village : In my opinion, the most underrated song of Iron Maiden. Technically, their best ever. 9,5/10
7-Powerslave : You can almost feel that you're in Egypt ! Adrian Smith solo is full of emotion. After hearing this song, you will be a slave to the power of Maiden. 10/10
8-Rime of the ancient mariner : The best song of all time. A 13 minutes song of that intensity and excellence is a "tour de force". The masterpiece of all masterpieces. Bottom line. 10/10

For some, it's the ultime Maiden album, for others the middle part is weak. The songs need time to grow but they are brilliant. Maybe not my favourite but near the top. A must.

Spectacular Album

Having been around for nearly a decade by this time, Iron Maiden's sound was developing from their early punk-styled streetwise songs to complex masterpieces. The Number Of The Beast saw the beginning of this change. The band's 1984 release, Powerslave, was the moment where their new style shined it brightest.

Like the previous release, 1983's Piece Of Mind, this album has the classic, and most likely the best, Iron Maiden lineup. Bruce "The Air Raid" Dickinson takes the forefront and vocals and sings with raw energy and power while having refined his ability over the last two albums. Guitarists Adrian Smith and Dave Murray play the harmonies that are so tight it's hard to imagine how they pull it off. They also let off some blazing solos when the time comes. As always, bassist and main lyricist Steve Harris lets himself be heard in the low end as he pounds, slaps and jams with the rhythm of Nicko McBrain, whose drumming is masterful and incredible.

The album starts off with the classic Aces High. The song starts a little slowly but once the harmony and rhythm kicks in, you know your time has come. The song is fast paced; hard, heavy and powerful with some great guitar work and a showcase of Dickinson's vocal refinement. Next comes another classic and live favorite: 2 Minutes To Midnight. Slower than the previous song, the guitars are very tight while the rhythm is powerful as Dickinson sings away with perfection. Next is Losfer Words (Big Orra), which is one of the 4 instrumentals that Iron Maiden has recorded in their career. A very cool song, the guitars shine, the bass is all over the place and the drumming is solid and consistent. Flash Of The Blade comes next and this is an awesome song about fighting and being a swordsman. The opening guitar is pretty interesting but blows into a hard song that rocks until its over. Not much to say about this song except awesome.

Another song about fighting, The Duellists follows up. It is basically a continuation of Flash Of The Blade with the heavy guitars and pounding rhythm but it is definitely a great song. One of my favorites on this album, Powerslave is an incredible song. Right away, the song hits home with heaviness. Dickinson steps in with the microphone and sings incredible lyrics about an evil Egyptian god. The guitar of the pre-chorus is cool and gives the song and evil type sound but the chorus is where everything shines. Dickinson's vocals soar while the other instruments play something similar to a march or even their signature galloping sound. The song breaks down into a soft piece but picks up again and ends in perfection. The final song, the longest song Iron Maiden has ever done, is Rime Of The Ancient Mariner. All any fan can say about this song is "wow". Its is simply incredible. The guitars gallop, the bass pounds, the drums flow and Dickinson's vocals are amazing. The breakdown with the spoken part is eerie but cool. And like the song Powerslave, the song comes full circle and ends perfectly. Words can not begin to describe this song.

Among Iron Maiden's 12 studio albums, a majority of fans vote this album to be one of their favorites. It has everything Iron Maiden stood for from the beginning. Although a number of these songs aren't played live anymore, they are still classics in their own right and you have to love each and every one of them. I recommend this for every Maiden fan and any fan of metal in general. Go on. Buy it.

THIS IS THE BEST ALBUM OF ALL TIME

IF YOU DON'T ALREADY OWN IT WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?! BUY IT IMMEDIATELY!

True Classic!

I Love this Album! The riffs on all of the songs are great.

Aces High 8/10 The way the songs goes is so-so.

2 Minutes To Midnight 10/10 The solos kick ass!

Losfer Words(Big 'Orra) 7/10 Not to fond of instrumentals.

Flash of the Blade 8/10 Love the Intro solo!

The Duellists 6/10 My least favorite song, sounds like Losfer Words in my opinion.

Back in the Village 7/10 Another filler.

Powerslave 10/10 Awesome song!! My favorite song written by Bruce Dickinson.

Rime of the Ancient Mariner 12/10 The only song that deserves extra credit. The song just keeps going, it doesn't slow down except the part in the middle. The last part makes up for it.
