Reviews:

Back To Barracuda?

Having achieved commercial success with mid 80s gems such as HEART(1984), BAD ANIMALS(1986), and BRIGADE(1988) , Heart again turned back to their rocking style as shown in Dreamboat Annie with this 1993 release.

I haven't been so much familiar with their 70s titles but this album makes me feel as if I went back to graceful 70s when Kiss, Kansas, Boston, Queen, and Led Zeppelin rocked.

BLACK ON BLACK II following mythical opening DESIRE trully ROCCKS!!! BACK TO AVALON has feel good chorus somewhat like 70s superstars such as CARPENTERS, ABBA, and country rock vibed OLIVIA NEWTON-JOHN. WILL YOU BE THERE also is such graceful yet catchy song.

VOODOO DOLL is an amusingly mythical rock track a bit reminding me of FLEETWOOD MAC during 70s. And my #1 FAVORITE track IN WALKS THE NIGHT.

It's true that this album misses RON NEVISON/PETER WOLF directed stadium rock vibe lots of music fans are aware of.

But if you can spare time and give this album enough listen you will find yourself loving this almost like 80s masterpieces.

Great

Heart is still amazing after all these years. This C.D I highly recommend. It has great tunes that show off there talent. I look for more from Heart in the coming years. This HEART beats on.

Heart: Desire Walks On (1993)

After the release of 1991's "Rock The House Live", bassist Mark Andes left Heart behind. In 1992, Heart took a hiatus to persue other projects. Ann & Nancy Wilson teamed up to form a band named, The Lovemongers. Ann and Nancy took up their positions as the lead vocalists, where Nancy also took up the position as the lead guitarist. They recruite Sue Ennis as the keyboardist, Frank Cox as the bassist, and Ben Smith as the drummer. The released a live EP, where they perform a cover of Led Zepplin's, "The Battle Of Evermore".

In 1993, Heart rejoined with the line-up of Ann Wilson (on lead vocals), Nancy Wilson (on guitars, vocals, and, sometimes, lead vocals), Howard Leese (on keyboards and background vocals), & Denny Carmassi (on drums). In November of 1993, Heart released their thirteenth album entitled, "Desire Walks On". This is an album that I really enjoy listening to. It is amongst their best, and it will be their last studio album for the next eleven years to come.

DESIRE

This spoken introduction is actually the spoken bridge that is heard in the song DESIRE WALKS ON.

BLACK ON BLACK II

The third & final single from the album. When I first heard this song, I flipped over it. The song is one of Heart's absolute best, in its heavy hard rock sound, along with a "Barracuda"-like riff. Many fans will come to adore this song when Heart would perform it live.

BACK TO AVALON

The second single from the album. Not a bad song.

THE WOMAN IN ME

The women in Ann and Nancy is enough to make any man go crazy. The sisters were always drop-dead gorgeous. By this time, Ann started picking up a lot of weight, and you know something, as heavy as she became, she still had that beautiful face. This is a great song.

RAGE

I can kind of relate to this song because I do have an anger problem. But all in all, this is another amazing song.

IN WALKS THE NIGHT

Not bad.

MY CRAZY HEAD

Not bad.

RING THEM BELLS (duet with Layne Staley)

Great song, but Layne Staley's voice needs some work.

WILL YOU BE THERE (IN THE MORNING)

The first single from the album. There goes Nancy with that beautiful and seductive voice. This is another song that is amongst my many favorites from Heart. The chorus is absolutely incredible, where the sisters deliver incredible harmonies. The both of them sing in unison when they come across the bridge. The note that they hit always sends chills throughout my body. Just listen to that high note in the bridge, but you better not be standing next to the speakers when that note is revealed.

VOODOO DOLL

Great song.

ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE

I agree with this song because anything is possible. A better job. A better life. A girlfriend or boyfriend who will turn out to be the right one. Whatever the case is, anything is most certainly possible.

AVALON (Reprise)

This a little re-recorded version of "Back To Avalon".

DESIRE WALKS ON

The album's title track. Great song.

This is an album that should be in the collection of every Heart fan around the world. If it is not in your Heart collection, then, what the hell are you waiting for? Buy this album.

The Amazing Heart

I have been a Heart fan since day one and everything they do impress me, though this CD is still one of my favourite`s. I love the way that the band puts their music and lyric together. It seems that Heart have made a huge impact to my life and I can only say Thanks. My all time favourite song on this CD is WOMEN IN ME even though it is a re make the way the Wilson Sister provide their special blend of emotion and vocal technique makes this song fantastic in every sense of the word. Thanks Heart for providing a fantastic CD. Paul

This album rocks!

Ok, I remember buying this in the early 90's and I ejoyed it then, but I never realized that over ten years later I would still be listening to it and loving it even more. I get tired of mainstream music and find myself falling back to music that I listened to a decade or more ago. Maybe I am in a time warp but music just seemed better then. These sisters have the best voices I have ever heard. I love rock when it is actually really rock. Who has a voice like Ann Wilson?? NO ONE. Her voice gives me chills and thrills. "Desire Walks On" is a fabulous song. It is an exciting song I can listen to again and again. "Will you be there in the morning" is the song I most admired all those years ago and it is still great. "In walks the night" is a very sensual song and well let me just say every song on this album is hot except I do not care for "Ring them bells" so much, but I adore this album. It is my favorite of Heart.

Why is this out of print in the US?

Well I finally shelled out the cash for the Japanese version of this disc and I was blown away.

After three straight albums of doing outside writers' songs and being moulded into "Survivor-Ette" by Ron Nevison, Heart comes back with the first album of primarily their own material in over a decade. And does it Rock? OOHHH Baby! IT ROCKS!

In a way this is sort of the quintessential Heart album. For one thing, the complexity of their earlier albums is back since they aren't stuck doing three-chord Diane Warren and Mutt Lange songs. But the edgier, modern production of the Heart/Bad_Animals/Brigade years is there too. The combination makes this album truly smoke.

Better yet, this album has the best sound mix of ANY Heart album. Somebody finally managed to figure out how to give Nancy and Howard their biting wall-of-sound guitar tones without burying the bass!

This album has some of Heart's most agressive rockers (Black on Black, Rage) as well as some incredibly tender ballads (Woman in me, Anything is Possible) and there really is no weak track on the whole disc.

I'm having a really hard time figuring out why this disc is out of print, when the tankers like Private Audition and Passionworks are still floating around.

If your debating picking up this album because you aren't familiar with any of the songs.... stop debating and just buy it. If you've ever been a Heart fan, there is something on this for you.
