Another superb album by Heart
Heart's Bad Animals came in the same year that Whitesnake, Motley Crue and a heavy number of rock bands put out albums. This '87 album is far better than their '85 in the way they took chances. It's more rockier this time with more rockers this time. Who Will You Run To stands out the most, but I also like There's The Girl, and I Want You so Bad. I still like the dramatic Alone. This soft meets loud approach that they do here is really their best power ballad. Where they start quiet before the loud blast of guitars crash on the chorus and the song goes back to quiet again. It's such a remarkable song for them! But back to the album, other standouts here are Easy Target and the ballistic Bad Animals, where Nancy is gritty and aggressive with her singing here. This was yet another great rock album that came out during 1987, perhaps the second best one after Whitesnake's.
Heart: Bad Animals (1987)
1985 was the year that saw Heart as becoming bigger and better when they released their album, "Heart" in June of that same year. In 1987, Heart kept the music going when they released their tenth album, "Bad Animals". The album climbed all the way to the #2 position, but still was heavily favored by the real fans of Heart. I never get tired of this album.
WHO WILL YOU RUN TO
The second single from the album. This song is light rock fused with that of slight pop and it sounds amazing. This is another one Heart's greatest songs. And they make a rather good point: Who will you run to when your love falls down?
ALONE
The first single from the album. The album may have gone to the #2 spot, but this song had gone to the #1 spot, making it Heart's second #1 hit single. I still find this a great song to listen to. Ann's voice is amazingly powerful and beautiful.
THERE'S THE GIRL
The third single from the album. This is another song that I favor very much because it was written by Nancy Wilson and it was sung by Nancy Wilson. Seems as though that I love all the songs sung by Nancy.
I WANT YOU SO BAD
The fourth & final single from the album. When I first reviewed this album, I had stated that I never cared too much for this song. But you know what? I am re-writing this song's review, because I misjudged this completely. This song kicks a** so hard like you believe.
WAIT FOR AN ANSWER
This is another great song, but I have also worn this out for myself.
BAD ANIMALS
The album's title track. I never went for this song and I still don't approve of it.
YOU AIN'T SO TOUGH
This one should have been a single. I don't know if others would have gone for it, but I certainly love it. The song is just amazing all the way around, with Heart's great harmonies that are given in the chorus.
STRANGERS OF THE HEART
This is, yet, another heart-felt power ballad that I cannot get enough of. Another song that should have been a single.
EASY TARGET
Not bad.
RSVP
Not bad.
I was really impressed with this album and it goes to show you that Heart was nowhere near finished with their career. This album also means that you don't stop buying Heart's music. Buy this album now and you won't regret it.
One of my favorite albums from the '80s incarnation of Heart
Back in the late '80s, early '90s, I was a big fan of the Seattle rock band Heart. I admit that at the time I was only familiar with their more recent work than their '70s music like "Barracuda" and "Little Queen". Heart was the first concert I attended in 1990. It was such a joy getting to see the band perform live. One of my favorite albums by the band is "Bad Animals". I think I got it after I bought "Brigade", my personal all time favorite Heart album. I love the all out rocker "Who Will You Run to". It is definitely one of my top favorite Heart songs. It is an eerily reminiscent of the band's earlier years. "Alone" is certainly one of Heart's better ballads, if not the best ballad. The haunting piano melodies really does it for me. As silly as the lyrics are, "There's the Girl" is a pretty good song but it is Nancy's vocals that makes listening to the song enjoyable. Nancy is just as good as a singer as is her older sister Ann. My other personal favorite song off "Bad Animals" is "You Ain't So Tough". The only songs that I thought were real turkeys and was painful to listen to because of the hokey lyrics are the title track and "RSVP". Those two songs are just too excruciatingly cheesy to listen to. The production was a bit too slick like on the band's self-titled album. Overall I still like to listen to "Bad Animals". It brings back fond memories of seeing the band live in concert.
