Description: Hatebreed's unrepentant heaviness puts other Ozzfest alumni to shame. The Connecticut-bred quintet combine elements of old-school hardcore with death-metal intensity for a metal-core sound that, with melodic guitar moments and double-kick drums, finds them equally suited for tours with Entombed and Danzig. On
Perseverance, Hatebreed's major-label debut, the underground favorites have not sacrificed any musical or lyrical principles--or any aggression--turning in 16 tracks of unrelenting force, with most tunes clocking in at under three minutes. In "You're Never Alone," vocalist Jamey Jasta cuts to the chase in engaging his audience. "This is for the kids who have nowhere to turn, who have nothing to live for," he barks, encouraging fans to use "hatred to do the right thing." Especially anthemic is the shout-along "I Will Be Heard," while the speedy punk-mosh mania of "We Still Fight" is enough to raise blood pressures. If Slayer and Pantera are your idea of ear candy, Perseverance is just what the doctor ordered.

Reviews:
HATEBREED IS FAR FROM NU-METAL!!!
If you think Hatebreed is nu-metal, you are braindead and need to take a lesson from Mr. Hell, who knows music.
Nu-metal:
Distorted guitar riffs.
DJ's.
Singing.
Rapping.
Hatebreed:
Screaming.
Hardcore.
Brutal guitars that kill nu-metal guitar riffs.
Straight-in-your-face metal that delivers.
Now do you think Hatebreed is nu-metal? Anyways, this CD is a classic. "I Will Be Heard" will start a hell of a mosh pit in a matter of a few seconds, and so will "Perseverance" and "A Call For Blood". If you think this is nu-metal, Jamey Jasta will kick your ass, you poser.
Intense as anything else out there.
After reviewing/listening to Sworn Enemy's "As Real as it Gets" yesterday, it would seem logical to take a look at a similar but different record, Hatebreed's "Perseverance". The brutality is cranked up to 11 on this one, as each song featues a simple but effective chugging, heavy and definitely headbangable rhythm section. Over this, the possessed vocals of Jamey Jasta (sp?) absolutely murder any other hardcore vocals I have been exposed to. Angry, impatient and preaching, Jasta delivers in spades on this short record. Kerry King (of Slayer fame) also makes his presence known, on "Final Prayer" (I believe...), where he contibutes some vocals and a mediocre guitar solo, as he is accoustomed to. The record is effective with the first one-two-three punch of tracks , where Jasta is as angry and indicting as any other vocalist out there:
You want to see me fail/You won't get your chance/You'll never get your chance
If a single track stood out, that would be "I Will be Heard", for its hand-pumping chorus and Jasta's overly aggressive vocal performance. Overall, an excellent choice for the hardcore genre, but this record has its flaws.
"Perseverance" is incredibly repeatative, and shows itself to be by about the 5th or 6th track, and the sonic assault can become tedious. However, the album salvages itself at the end, with the Outro. Recommended for fans of the hardcore genre, or anybody that needs to release some rage.
True Hardcore
This album has a blazing opening, a brutal body, and a finish that can slaughter kittens. I loved it. Not as much as the album prior, that one seemed more raw and uncut, but almost just as amazing. 57 thumbs up out of 60.
