Description: A glimpse of the future, and not because of its huge influence and umpteen million sales. The poor-little-rich-boy protest "Out ta Get Me" intimates that Axl Rose's egotism and martyr complex were soon to grow bigger than his head; still, Appetite's night-train wreck of punk and metal sounds and sensibilities make it more than just an emblem of its time. Whether GN'R are dancing with Mr. Brownstone, penning a callow kiss-off letter to some chick named Michelle, or passing out on somebody else's sofa, this was and remains a savage journey to the heart of the American--or at least the Hollywood--dream. --Rickey Wright

Reviews:

Buy the unedited album.

Appetite for Destruction is arguably the best debut album of all time. The "censored" version is not very good. Most of the material is very poorly censored and although I respect the idea of censoring the music, I don't support it - because frankly kids should not be listening to Guns N' Roses, and if adults have a problem with mild language (and it is quite mild here) they just shouldn't be listening to Gn'R! Sometimes profanity filters are good (such as the one I purchased for my television for family viewing) - but editing a hard rock CD isn't a good idea since the content to begin with is pretty hardcore. I mean, the very idea of censoring "naughty words" from ROCKET QUEEN is hilarious - forget about the recorded female orgasm that plays midway through, just make sure they don't say any bad words!

Classic !!!!

There aint much to say about this album then what has already been said it is a great album.

(Biggiesmalls "Bigpoppa" you suck and how the hell are all the rap albums i have rated 1 star great albums i also listen to rap you fool otherwise i would not be rating RAP ALBUMS 2 pac Bone thugs so shut the f^&k up.

Should be repackaged in Deluxe Edition.

This is one of the best albums ever recorded, and the one that changed everything that was to come, for better and worse. I liken this one to The Doors' debut in that a majority of their songs to be on future CDs were written by the time this came out. 1/4 of "Use Your Illusion" were recorded around this time as well as most of the acoustic part of "Lies". "Appetite" had a different cover which caused a lot of controversy at the time, and I think that the original cover can still be found.

Once upon a time, Guns N Roses were a band that caused a storm and were the biggest band out there. Unfortunately, changes were to occur and were never the same ever since. The "Use Your Illusion" CDs were big hits, but were more sprawling epics than they were great rock songs.

I think they were classified as a "metal" band in the beginning (mostly due to their look), but their ties to bands like the Stones were far more obvious, and their roots to punk were probably more closer (even more obvious on their "Spaghetti Incident" CD).

Overall, the songs are dark and uncompromising, yet a song like "Sweet Child O'Mine" winds up in there, kind of like how Eminem will put that one radio-friendly song to draw you in to a far darker world...

But the band itself is the engine to what propelled this album into being a classic, not just one person. Each of them have a distinct sound on there that can be heard through the entire thing. There are times they might have tried to sound like mid 80s metal (keep in mind Metallica were just starting to be headliners around this time and bands like Motley Crue were riding high), but where most bands were singing about over the top stuff or just having a good time, GnR were talking about personal "devils" they were facing than most bands were doing.

There are a couple of songs that some might consider "filler", but included in this collection of songs it fits just right.

The only thing I can suggest is that the demos from the sessions, outtakes, the MTV "Live at the Ritz" and the promo videos be included as part of a "Deluxe Edition" CD/DVD.

With or without extras,it's a bona fide classic and a must own.

the greatest hard rock CD ever

UYI 1 was bad exept for Live & Let Die & November Rain, and UYI 2

was okay. This turns out the best rock album in the whole

world. The mean dirty sexy drug songs are My Michelle, Your Crazy, & Anything Goes. Sometimes this album is very boring. The

best band in the whole world ever was Dire Straits because Mark

Knopfler was the best vocalist. Anyway REVIEW all these songs.

WELCOME TO THE JUNGLE-Instant classic! Axl makes you want to laugh sinngling this little song. It's a very funny classic with

slash doing his best riff.

IT'S SO EASY-Kinda stupid. The music is great but the lyrics are

totally god damn stupid. Axl will kill you in this song.

NIGHT TRAIN-Great rock song, but kinda the reapeative song ever!

This song seems like that Axl has been smoking nicoteen during this song.

OUT TO GET ME-Kinda song that Dizzy Lamb wants to hear and how

Pablo Sanchez hates this song. It's so great but not the greatest.

MR BROWNSTONE-One of my favorite songs ever! This riff is so amazing and vocals are never stupid or mean. This is Dizzy Lamb's

favorite song on the entire CD.

PARADISE CITY-Kyle Buhman bought this album for this song and

this is one of my favorite songs on the cd. The riff is so amazing. Another instant classic!

MY MICHIELLE-I hate this song! It is stupid, mean, ugly, dull, sex, drugs, liquor, violence, nicoteen, and it is the weakest

song on the entire cd. I think I'll kill Axl rose in this song.

This song sounds simular to Back in Black. KILL YOU KILL YOU AXL!

THINK ABOUT YOU-Greg Maddux loves this song. It is not a great

intro but it is quite good.

SWEET CHILD OF MINE-Their best song. A great intro to a Backyard

Baseball 2005 game with the Oakland Athletics. Dizzy Lamb loves

this song and this is one of the best songs to Heavy Fuel.

YOUR CRAZY-Sex, drugs, liqour, mean, dirty, violenty, and ugly.

I hate this song. KILL THIS SONG WITH AXL.

ANYTHING GOES-HATE HATE HATE! Never tune to listen to. It is mean

dirty, ugly, dull, sexy, druggy, & violenty. KILL AXL ROSE RIGHT

NOW.

ROCKET QUEEN-A great closing track with a very sad ending.

This album is so darn boring. Buy On Every Street insted.

What a ripoff.

This CD is a joke. IT says edited, but it's every bit as uncensored as the explicit version. AND it's 5$ extra. Save your money, or even just pass it up, if it's for a kid. I like the music, not the false advertising. Musically, it should be a 4 and a half stars, but advertising-wise...it's crap.

What!!!!!!!!!!!!!

guns n roses brought back booze drugs and women and killed the corparate hair metal era so many bitching about the profanity, a band with a reputation like G`n`R shood give you an idea of wat wil be on this album and if you dont like it (in the words of axl rose) "you can suck me". I will always love this album but what i will never love is censorship, buy the dirty version and get the real G`n`R experience.
