Reviews:
Fun and energetic .
Geri,s second effort is remarkable. She has improved in her song writing with touching ballads like calling, love is the only light and I was made that way. Scream has variety like reggea, disco etc,and you can tell she is having fun. But get ready she is recording her third album due out early next year and she is already releasing her new single ride it due out in november. I,ve heard a sample of it and let me tell you Geri is far from done.
Brave New Halliwell!!
The Bonus track Brave New World makes this album the best spice girl's solo ever released!!Anyway,Geri has a lot of gasoline to give and also great songs what makes worth every cent spent on this album!!
Calling You...
Halliwell's second solo album wasn't so successful as the first one "Schizophonic". "Scream If You Gonna Faster" is a powerful pop song. The next song is quite erotic "Shake Your Bootie Cutie". Halliwell has a sexy voice, can't deny it. "Calling" is very touching and peaceful love song. It is my brother's favourite and it is also one ofmy favourites too from this album. "Feels Like Sex"...another song about sex...well, I guess it is OK to talk and sing about it. "Circle Round the Moon" is my favourite song after "Mi Chico Latino" in the first album by Geri. It has a great melody and it is kinda romantic and playful. "Love is the Only Light" is quite a boring one...I usually skip it..."Strength of a Woman" is a great track...it has excellent vocals...Geri sings very brilliantly. "Don't Call Me Baby" and "Lovey Dovey Stuff" are quite basic stuff..."It's Raining Men" was the first single from this album. It is quite fast and it has the same power that Spice Girls had. "Heaven And Hell" is a playful track...it has a great message about Geri Halliwell and other celebraties...they cannot do everthing and they have to do things they wouldn't like. "I Was Made That Way" is a boring closer ballad.
Stars: Circles Round the Moon, Scream If You Wanna Go Faster, Calling
Geri is still "Scream" worthy
Geri Halliwell's second album is full of hits. From the Nancy Sinatra-esque title track to the cover of "It's Raining Men", this ablum is flat-out fun. "Heaven and Hell (Being Geri Halliwell" is such a fun, self-depricating song. She muses about her "15" minutes and the ups and downs of fame. "Calling" and "Circles Round the Moon" show that Ms. Halliwell can indeed carry off a ballad with her much improved vocals. "Shake Your Bootie Cutie" is fun and "Feels Like Sex" is sexy as hell while saying that, in fact, "sex is in your head." This cd is actually better as a whole than "Schizophonic" in my opinion and shows an artist evolving in her own right. I highly recommend it to anyone who loves pure pop music.
No sophmore slump here
Once you remove the disc from it's case, Geri's written advice is "Go Play! Never lose the kid in you! What are you waiting for?"
This is no more than obvious when you begin to spin this album. This is an inspirational pop record, now that may have sounded odd. But it is true. Today, a lot of pop artist's totally rely on either a hot body or a hot track to sell records, & while that is not a bad thing & is needed at times, it doesn't exactly summarize what pop music is meant to be. Pop is an amalgam of sounds, something crafted to take you upon a journey. It is meant to have a spirit.
Geri Halliwell embodies all that is great in pop. Her persona is fun, yet at the same time she just isn't some painted up pop puppet; she's always had something to say. And Geri can't ever just say it...she does it!
From the sassy rock throwback opener of "Scream If You Wanna go Faster" to the melancholic introspective closer of "I Was Made That Way" Geri has designed a record that appeals to everyone.
While Geri isn't the most accomplished singer, some of her best vocal work is here & she continues to forge a path as one of the best vocal stylist's in the business. She writes songs that fit her range & works from there. This is apparent on probably the best ballad Geri has done to date, "Calling". A love song that tells of the back & forth attitudes lovers have in a relationship, how the journey of love is a discovery. Geri's vocal's here evoke passion, melancholy, & they surprisngly soar without grating. Other songwriting highlights include the breezy "Circles Round the Moon" & erm...'girl power' anthem that doesn't sound misdirected "Strength of A Woman".
Musically Geri stays diverse without spreading herself thin. Working from a pop foundation Geri can move from balladry soundscapes to over the top, camp dance numbers such as the "Faith" inspired "Feels Like Sex" & comical rump shaker "Shake Your Bootie Cutie".
Only when Geri tries to defend herself from the UK press on the misguided, yet interesting "Heaven & Hell (Being Geri Halliwell) does she lose her footing. It just doesn't match the tongue-in-cheek ice queen attitude of her previous press attack "You're In A Bubble" from "Schizophonic".
It seems now that Geri has lost her pop eccentricity musically, & moved in a more 'dance'-like sound direction. If you'd like to hear what may be her last eccentric sounding record, then "Scream If You Wanna Go Faster" is worth the import price tag.
Same
This is the same CD except its the Asian version featuring Brave NEw World a track similar to something of Kylie Minogues.
