Description: Compared to the class act that was Capitol's
Sinatra 80th--All the Best, this haphazardly sequenced collection of live performances is disappointing in the extreme. Though obviously culled from several different concerts (dating at least as far back as 1974), the disc's packaging omits specific recording information, trying to pass itself off instead as a recent document of a complete Sinatra concert. Sinatra acquits himself admirably on all 14 of the live numbers, even though his range changes rather noticeably from cut to cut. Sinatra deserves a definitive compilation of his best live performances, and this simply isn't it. Still, for those of you who couldn't get enough of the
Duets series, this does include a studio version of "My Way," sung with Luciano Pavarotti.

Reviews:
Great Live Recordings from 1988
Contrary to the 'official' review of this item, all of the tracks here (except the poorly edited Sinatra/Pavoratti duet)were recorded live in 1988. 11 out of 14 of the live tracks are from one live show in Boston in 1988, the other three from the 'Ultimate Event' Tour from 1988. Those three were recorded on December 2 and 3, 1988 at the Fox Theatre in Detroit. This is a marvelous collection of live tracks, with Sinatra in magnificent voice throughout all of the tracks. ANY Sinatra fan will enjoy this wonderful collection. I only hope that the Sinatra family trust will release more of this material in the future!! I would give it 6 stars if I could!!!
A Fitting Swan Song
Long before Elvis, The Stones, The Beatles or Elton John came along, Frank Sinatra made his live shows an event for all his
fans. Frank Sinatra performed until he was 80, and this cd is
his last concert on tape. The tape shows that he could make a
crowd go wild even when he was 80. Although he had many voice
problems in his final years, this cd demonstrates how good he
could still still sing. This is demonstrated on the showstop-
ping renditions he does of What Now My Love, You Are The Sun-
shine Of My Life, Where Or When, Strangers In The Night, Ang-
el Eyes, Where Or When and New York, New York. The other ones
are also really great performances. My only complaint is that
the album has an awful studio recording of My Way with famous
opera singer Lucianno Pavarotti dueting with Sinatra
A Fitting Final Album
Frank Sinatra was such a dynamic live performer. So it was fitting that his last non - compilation album was a concert
album recorded in celebration of his 80th birthday. The cd
opens with a great rendition of " You Are The Sunshine Of My
Life ", followed by basically a nostalgic trip through Frank's
60 - year career. Following the first track is a powerful
rendition of " What Now My Love ". After that is a beautiful
rendering of the Rodgers/Hart classic " My Heart Stood Still ".
After that, we get the lovely ballad " What's New ", followed by
a swingin' " For Once In My Life ". After that, we get the lovely
" If ". After that comes a Cole Poter tune, " In The Still Of The
Night ", followed by an epic version of Rodgers and Hammerstein's
"Soliloquy. After that, we get the beautiful ballad " Maybe This
Time ", followed by a rolicking " Where Or When ". After that,
we get a beautiful rendition of " You Will Be Music ". Tracks 12 is a Sinatra song we all know and love, a heartwrenching rendering of " Strangers In The Night ". After that, we get a really good rendition of " Angel Eyes ", followed by the finale,
an exemplary " New York, New York ". After that we get a studio
bonus track : a version of " My Way " sung by Frank and ( get ready for this ) Luciano Pavarotti. The album was Frank's last concert. Frank was beginning to have voice problems during his
last two years on the road ( 1993-95 ), but at this show, his
voice was considerably strong. The album is a fitting " swan song " to a man who put a smile on everyone's face.
