Description: Encouraged by the massive sales of 1993's Duets, Capitol went back to the well a year later for a sequel. The pairings are a little more inspired this time around, with Willie Nelson ("A Foggy Day"), Lena Horne ("Embraceable You"), Chrissie Hynde ("Luck Be a Lady") and Antonio Carlos Jobim ("Fly Me to the Moon") all turning in satisfying performances. Unfortunately, there's also a heaping helping of forgettable cuts (including duets with Luis Miguel, Jimmy Buffett, Jon Secada, and Lorrie Morgan), and Phil Ramone's arrangements continue to grate. And the overwrought duet with Neil Diamond on "The House Live In (That's America to Me)" has to be heard to be believed. Hardly a necessary addition to your Sinatra collection. --Dan Epstein

Reviews:

Dissing the Chairman

Echoing not only the editorial reviews which appear above, I have to agree with many of my fellow reviewers that the incredible pairing of Frank with so many talentless performers (at least on this project anyway) was nothing more than a crass attempt to cash in once again on the merits of at least one member of the duet who could actually sing. I have to say that I began the first cuts with an anticipation for an enjoyable hour of listening. But, as the CD progressed, I began to feel more and more auditory pain. The absolute screechings of Pattie LaBelle and Eydie Gormet at the end of their offerings made me wish I had been born hearing impaired. And, the uneven contributions of almost every other singer (with only two notable exceptions--Willie Nelson and Kryssie Hynde) made me wonder if the studio engineers had had a little too much to drink the night before the session. And, one has to wonder, if the two duetists were actually in the same studio, or if this was a cut and paste effort. In any event, save your money or invest it in an earlier Sinatra recording. This CD would make for a fine target at your local pistol range, and not much more.

Enjoyable

Much like Duets 1 there are some great moments here as well as some off pairings as well.

Come Fly With Me and Mack The Knife are probably the most fun moments.

Surprisingly Luck Be A Lady with Chrissie Hynde works quite well.

oh, the horror, the horror

One must assume that this record and it's predecessor were put out by evil geniuses who so loathed Sinatra (the greatest singer of the century) that a plot was hatched to ruin a remarkable career at the end of his life. Hideous in every way. I have to echo the sentiment of the reviewer who wrote: "umm, vomit".
