Description: This 16-track sampler from Frank Sinatra's Columbia years overlaps Sings His Greatest Hits by five songs, but in many ways is a more interesting--and idiosyncratic--collection. It opens with "All or Nothing At All," the 1939 recording with Harry James and His Orchestra that was Sinatra's first chart hit (and which was re-released in 1943 under his own name). It also includes such infrequently anthologized cuts as the lovely "You'll Never Know," Rodgers and Hammerstein's "Soliloquy (Parts 1 & 2)," and the goofy novelty "The Coffee Song." The digital remastering sheds new sonic light on Axel Stordahl's lush arrangements, but it's Sinatra's voice that steals the show. --Dan Epstein

Reviews:

Coo Coo Cool!

Sinatra s wonderful, and this captures him completely. Check out his live performance on the Ratpack Uncensored CD (not available here.. you gotta find it elsewhere)! What an entertainer. No one tops him.

Sinatra's most requested songs, except for...

New York New York, Strangers In The Night, Fly Me To The Moon, The Lady Is A Tramp, Night And Day, Come Fly With Me, Witchcraft, I've Got You Under My Skin, etc. etc. etc. This collection is taken from the first few years of Frank's career and it doesn't represent the Sinatra that most people know and (hopefully) love. These "16 Most Requested Songs" collections never contain the most requested songs but rather ancient tunes from the vaults and they are generally a rip off. Beware.

Ok if you like early Frank and know what you're getting into. Otherwise check out "The Very Good Years" from Reprise Records.
