Description: As concise a collection as one could ask for, distilling the essence of late '70s/early '80s hard rock into 10 strong doses, Records explains Foreigner better than any of their regular studio albums ever could. Essentially the work of ex-Spooky Tooth guitarist Mick Jones and singer Lou Gramm, Foreigner understood what it took to deliver loud, guitar-driven rock to FM radio. Their hooks were evident from the get-go with "Cold As Ice" and "Feels Like the First Time" and only grew stronger over time with "Jukebox Hero" and "Hot Blooded." By the time of "Waiting for a Girl Like You," Foreigner were beginning to lean harder on adult-contemporary pop, which sent them in another direction. --Rob O'Connor

Reviews:

Foreigners hits 77-81

When Foreigner Records came out in 1982,Foreigner had only released for albums.Foreigner,Double Vision,Head Games, and 4,all good albums, but somebody thought they needed a greatest hits album already, with only having 4 albums out. With 10 songs Records represents the Foreigner radio experience very well, the album only contains songs that you should know.Cold As Ice,Feels Like the First Time, and Long, Long Way from Home all come from Foreigner's 1977 self titled album.Double Vision is from the album of the same name. The Head Games album is represented by Head Games and Dirty White Boy.Then 4 is represented by Waiting for a Girl Like You(Foreigner's best ballad),Urgent, and Jukebox Hero. Then there is a live version of HOt Blooded from the 1982 tour, which has to be the best version of Hot Blooded I have ever heard, the energy is great. It blows the studio version away! With 10 songs and running around 40 minutes,it's just like any other album to come out in the 70's or 80's.Your average album was usually 30-40 minutes, less is more.Who cares that Records only fills half the time that a CD can hold,I'd rather have 30-40 minutes of quality music than have 80 minutes of music and only 30 minutes of it being good.

Okay greatest hits collection but needs more songs

If you're new to Foreigner I would recommend getting the Complete Greatest Hits CD over this cause there's more songs to choose from and if I was the one that had to choose the songs from this CD, I would choose Feels Like the First Time, Cold as Ice, Headknocker, Long Long Way From Home, At War With the World, Double Vision, Blue Morning Blue Day, Hot Blooded, Love Has Taken its Toll, Dirty White Boy, Head Games, Women, Rev on the Red Line, Love on the Telephone, Urgent, Waiting For a Girl Like You, Break it Up, Juke Box Hero, Luanne and Woman in Black. I think that this would be a perfect greatest hits compilation if they would've done it that way but I give this CD 3.5 stars overall.

good

I bought this album because it was the cheapest way to get my five favorites on one cd, as well as explore some new stuff. I was a little displeased to find when i got home from the store "hot blooded" was live, however it has a certain fresh edge to it that i enjoyed. "Jukebox hero" "Feels like the first time" "Double vision" "cold as ice" and "hot blooded" are all exceptionally good songs. As for the others they were simply ok, "urgent" being the most memorable. For the album accomplished what it needed to do, and for the 5 songs, it gets 4 stars.
