Reviews:

The Mac flame on a slow smolder

This CD had to be a comedown for the band, coming as it did on the heels of the finest Peter Green lineup release "Then Play On". With this one, the band regroups with guitar/vocalist Danny Kirwan, guitar/pianist/vocalist Jeremy Spencer, bassist Mick Fleetwood and drummer John McVie to make a low-key tribute to 50s era music, mostly rockabilly with some country and occasional blues influence. How much you like this one will probably depend on your affection, or lack thereof, for the music of that era.

Best cuts here are rocker "Jewel Eyed Judy", Buddy Holly soundalike "Buddy's Song" (which manages to namecheck several of Holly's tunes) and the delicate "Mission Bell" (possibly a tongue in cheek to the OTHER Fleetwoods...the 50s band who made "Come Softly to Me" a smash..). "Tell Me all the Things You Do" is pretty catchy as well with nice organ and guitarwork, although it would benefit from more time in the lyric department.

The only real clunker here is "Earl Grey" (another boring instrumental).

While not outstanding, this will certainly be appreciated by Mac fans and possibly by openminded "oldies" fans who can appreciate the homages here. Final note: The cover artwork points to the band's future. It's drawn by one Christine Perfect, a guest singer on the LP (who would later marry McVie and become a fulltime member for their next LP "Future Games".

The Real Fleetwood Mac

I never much cared for the more popular incarnation of Fleetwood Mac. Kiln House was made after the exit of Peter Green and as a result has a much softer edge. But, every tune on this album will have you tapping your feet and singing along. This is Fleetwood Mac's tribute to rockabilly, with a bluesy edge. I remember hearing this release after driving my best friend from NJ to Wisconsin. Every song rocks, but I especially like "Tell Me All The Things You Do" and the surreal "Earl Gray." Even with the loss of Peter Green both Jeremy Spencer and Danny Kirwan still do a great job. If you like me disdain the nasal machinations of Stevie Nicks, pick up this album, you'll feel better.

This just plain stinks!!!

This is Fleetwood Macs worst cd ever!!! Commercial bubble-gum pop at it's worst. Horrible, out of key vocals, and the whole cd sounds out of tune!!! Awful, I can't believe the record companies allowed this one to get released!!! Pitiful!!!
