Description: Guilty pleasure alert No. 2013: Filter absolutely, positively would not exist without the dirty, gritty musical formulas laid before him by Nine Inch Nails' Trent Reznor. The on-the-edge screams, the heavy industrial rhythms, the full-frontal guitar sounds--it's all been done before. And if that weren't enough, vocalist-guitarist-rhythmatist Richard Patrick lived a pre-Filter life as a touring band member in an early version of the aforementioned Nails. Indeed,
Short Bus couldn't get more plagiaristically preposterous, and yet--oh, the guilt--this is the perfect disc to primally purge by. From the disc's crunchy opener hit "Hey Man Nice Shot" through to the oh-so-Trent-y "Under" and the slow, stalking beats of the hilariously tagged "Gerbil," this disc is 46 minutes of fiery fun; you could spend time being pissed off at its lack of originality or you could just enjoy it for what it is--sheer walls of white noise.

Reviews:
Serious damn grunge ...
This album is great!! Yes, it's sometimes difficult to understand what he's saying, but it doesn't matter .... that's half the fun .... trying to figure out what he's saying! All the songs on this are very powerful, very raw. Play it loud! The screaming is what makes this album.
A tangent ... i wish Hey Man, Nice Shot wasn't this first song on this. I wish they put it as the last song ... you know, build the album up ... and then play their best (...okay, one of their best) song.
Some good grunge, but mostly bad
I purchased this album because it had "Hey Man, Nice Shot". It's a good grunge song, the opening bass is wickedly awesome. As for the rest of the album, it's pretty pathetic. I've only listened to some of these songs once or halfway through. Most of it is really boring and I've had absolutely no interest in coming back and listening them again. I haven't touched this album in like a year accept for just now so I could remind myself how horrible it is. Anyways, I give this album 1 star for "Hey man, Nice Shot", and another for the rest. This album still packs some good grunge riffs, but that's about it. I was about to pond this album off but I left the CD case at home about 150 miles away. I got it back now, and after listening to it again I think I'll pond it off for sure this time.
WOO!!! GOIN' ON 10 YEARS!!!
happy almost 10-year-anniversary, short bus! and yet we STILL hear "hey man nice shot" on the radio.
cool.
anyways, I absolutely love filter to tiny little pieces, but I only started listening to the radio in 6th grade... (4 years ago) so I heard "take a picture" first. I ended up buying "title of record" before "the amalgamut" or "short bus", but I totally recommend all 3. I'll admit, a lot of the songs on this album DO sound alike, which is not necessarily a bad thing. but my personal faves are "under" and "stuck in here". filter lyrics are... sub par, as per usual, but that can be easily overlooked for the overall sound, which ranges from dark, crunchy alt-metal-sounding rock to slow, melancholy... I don't even know what to call it. is there a word for that? (think: "stuck in here", "so cool")
anyways, as with all filter albums (the whole 3 of them) I don't think it's perfect, but the moments where it shines make it definitely worth buying.
or you could pirate the "good tracks" off the internet.

I won't look. but... hey, you know. give the whole thing a shot. you never know. you might find something you like on it.
