Good album, only half the picture
It took a long time for a good Falco compilation to be available in the United States, and for that I am thrilled that this album was released. However, Falco released eight original albums in his career and only three are represented here.
Falco's music over the years journeyed to some very exciting places: most are familiar with EMOTIONAL, featuring Jeanny Part 2, in my opinion one of his finest works. WIENER BLUT includes a lot of great pop rock songs, many of which I think are more accessible than some on this collection. The little-known 1990 release DATA DeGroove is Falco's most esoteric and original album, really very different than any other. 1992's NACHTFLUG is an exciting dark album with some great tunes. His final album "Out Of The Dark" contains some real gems, especially the title track and 'Egoist.'
I would recommend this album as a starting point, but then go online and get some of these other albums or seek out European compilations that are more inclusive.
Poor Quick Throw Together To Cash In On Death!
Unfortunatly in America..this is all we have left aside from the horrable updated remix collection from the early 90s. This is NOT a greatest hits collection by any means. It is missing so much and contains a throw together of various LP cuts from the A&M years of Falco in the US. Not to mention, they didnt even put the US single version of "Amadeus" on it at least but the German LP version (aka the video version). The only somewhat good thing about this throw together is that the mastering is great and you get the unavalible anywhere else on CD original "new 86 edit/mix" of "Vienna Calling" which was the single version over here. For a true Greatest Hits to cover the US years, it is missing as I said..the US single version of "Amadeus" (also known as the canadian version as listed on the original single), "Tutankamone", "No Answer", "The Sound Of Musik", "Emotional", "Coming Home (Jeanny Part 2)" and "Wiener Blut". These tracks may not have been mass remembered to this day "top" hits in the US but they did get a fair amount of radio play durring his era in the US. Get any of the import hits collections if your looking to get a true best of for your collection. And if your a Falco fan..just get the original LPs via import CD or track down the out of print US CDs.
Sorry to hear this isn't truly his greatest hits.
Reading some of the other reviews, I feel slighlty cheated. I've always found Falco an inventive and truly original artist who could make a wacky pop homage to Mozart memorable, reaching out to the rest of the world from Vienna and was not afraid to stay true to his roots. Just listen to the "falco, you are wonderful" line on "America." This guy was having a good time.I was disheartened to read that this was a less than representative collection of the artist's work. For a casual fan like me, this works out OK, but now I'll probably have to search out some of his other work to get a better appreciation for this artist's legacy. Now, if I could only sprechen sie deutsch.
