like some other reviewers said, this is a song that i just cant get enough of. it is an in depth emotionaly powerful song that i cant seem to get out of my head. the song is produced perfectly for this song and it brings me peace just to listen to it. my immortal one of the greatest songs around. most music today is bland and lifeless but my immortal stands out as one of the best songs ever written. our website is www.realmusiccrusaders.com be sure to check it out.

thank you for your time

Immortal

This song took me completely by surprise. They saved Evanescence from one-dimentionality. This song is the most unabashedly poetic and heartfelt piece of music played on the radio in years. The magnificent orchestra arrangement heard on the album version, Amy Lee's hauntingly beautiful and mourning vocals (which are basically an F-U to everyone who says she can't sing), and the subtle, yet piercing, emotion in the song all prove how good Evanescence really is. Any doubts I had about them were obliterated upon hearing this song. By far the best song of 2004. If you don't have the album, buy this. It has the "Band Version" which is basically the radio edit, and the beautiful album version, which is even more gently haunting. In a year of countless, horrible songs played constantly on the radio, Evanescence released a song that was actually that, a "song". And a damn awesome one at that. Go Evanescence!!

it's so NOT "goth"

I have to say, this will deter a LOT of people from ever picking this up as it has a very dark, overdramatic, and melancholy tone to the word "goth". This is totally different than anything you've ever heard before.

She's got a voice good enough to perform classically

The band has actual arrangements to their music and she did the choral arrangements on the album as well.

The style ranges from power ballad to decent hard rock and lots of styles inbetween.

It's the best album I've ever owned and I would NEVER own something based on it's "gothic-ness" and I'm not really a hard rock junkie either. I'm just as much of a Celine and Lara Fabian fan as I am Bon Jovi, Nickelback, and Linkin Park. My favorite music is by far a great broadway belting musical.

Amy's voice pleases the professional in me, their rhythms, lyrics, and talent pleases the musician in me, and their playability pleases the fan in me.

Don't be fooled by labels-try them out if you're an all around music fan and you WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED!!!

My Immortal (or) Unrequited Love

The Canadian got the review right (23_FEB_04).
In case you didn't get it, My Immortal is a song
about unrequited love--I'm sure.

My Immortal Rocks!!

My Immortal is close to my favorite Evanescence song (Immaginary is creeping closer). When I first heard this I had it playing in the back of my head and one of my close friends had gotten hurt and was crying a little - so I had the lyric "When you cried I'd wipe away all of your tears" stuck in my head. Now I can sing it all the way through on my own. Lovely song. I don't have this single, but I do have Fallen and I love each song.

what can I say???

It's amazing when I look at other reviews and see comments like, "they sound like so many other bands." If you ask me, I cannot find another artist who combines the angelic sound of Amy Lee's voice with brooding, chugging guitar work. I've tried comparing Evanescence to other bands in their genre, and they definitely have their own sound and their own style. Plus, Amy Lee's voice is so much better than the lead vocals of, oh, let's say, Iced Earth, which is one band I've seen recommended in place of Evanescence. I've heard Iced Earth, and the purity of Amy Lee's voice far outclasses them.

"My Immortal" is without a doubt the ONLY song that has haunted me since the first time I heard it from start to finish. It is hands down one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard. I've got to admit, I have a little bias towards this song because the lyrics speak of a part of my past, but the reason for the effectiveness of this song is the piano, the strings, and, above all else, Amy Lee's heartbreaking voice. Without her, the lyrics don't stand out and the mood of the song fails. She delivers a flawless, heart-wrenching performance that could very well bring tears to your eyes (I wept myself). Forget all the shouting and screaming that's so prevalent in alternative/hardcore bands nowadays. They'd better practice up on their singing skills to reach Amy Lee's level of talent. Could she sing opera???...obviously not, but for hard rock music, Amy Lee and Evanescence have broken the mold.
