Reviews:

A Heavenly Body of Work

With some singles you get a couple of remixes that don't do justice or raise the bar to the original but you might want to check this one out. Not only are there some great remixes here but you also get some stripped down accoustic versions from the past and present. I am a HUGE fan of Erasure but I have to admit that I was less than impressed with their latest release, Love Boat. I've waited for the singles from this CD to come out in hopes that they'd work their magic on them and turn them from sedated into elated versions. I am here to tell you that my patience has paid off. This is not to say that every remix is amazing but the first three mixes of the Moon and the Sky really are. The last two mixes are those typical canned, no brainer remixes where you have a thousand mile an hour beat that sounds NOTHING like the original song. The accoustic songs, in my opinion, are laid back, stripped down and intimate. The accoustic versions of Freedom and A Little Respect are my favorites, especially A Little Reespect (WOW!). The others are quickly growing on me and have every sign of being familiar old favorites as well. The bottom line here is that they shot for the moon and the sky with this one but hit the stars, it's classic Erasure.

Excellent remixes & acoustic tracks

I know I have stated this before but it is worth stating again...Erasure is my favorite synth-pop group from the '80s. Their music is irresistably catchy and impossible not to like. Back in 2000, I was disappointed that the group's latest studio album of original material "Loveboat" was not going to be released domestically in the US (now it has). I bought it despite the error in judgement from the group's supposedly US distribution deal with Maverick Records. What "Behaviour" was to the Pet Shop Boys is "Loveboat" is to Erasure. "Loveboat" was a more somber, moodier album than the group's past albums. One of my favorite songs off the cd happens to be "Moon and the Sky". The combination of heartfelt lyrics and melancholy melodies really got to me. When I came across the remixes to the song plus acoustic versions of "Baby Love" (by The Supremes) and "A Little Respect" (my all time favorite Erasure song), I bought it immediately. I certainly enjoyed the remixes a lot. I particuarly thought that JC's Heaven Scent Radio Re-Work remix and Sleaze Sisters Anthem Mix were the best of the five remixes. I primarily bought the single for the acoustic songs though. I just flipped over the acoustic songs. I particularly loved the duo's cover of The Supremes' "Baby Love". "A Little Respect" sounded absolutely amazing acoustically as did the songs from "Loveboat" too. "Moon and the Sky Plus" was definitely well worth the money I forked over.

Moon and The Sky Plus

Must admit i am bias as an Erasure fan, but this single is very noteworthy. The remixes and acustic versions are what makes Erasure a thrill to listen to. Of all the remixes The Millionaires remix is the strongest (just wish it was a full length remix instead of a radio).

More than a Single...

"Moon & The Sky" isn't my favorite song on the Loveboat album(that honor goes to the magnificent "Freedom"), but I gotta say this release almost changes my mind.

Many of the mixes added to this cd are those rare cases where they meet and sometimes beat the original song, especially "JC's Heaven Scent Radio Re-Work" and "The Millionaires Radio Edit", these two add a lot of bounce to the song that was hidden by the overly techno original and make the song much more enjoyable.

Aside from the 5 mixes, this cd takes it further by providing the entire "Acoustic Session" release. Acoustic versions are a rare treat and this cd gorges you with 5 of some of Erasure's best work played by Vince Clarke and Nic Johnston on guitar. "Freedom" was born to be played on guitar, as was "A Little Respect." "Baby Love" is a welcome addition, albeit a cover song. "Alien" and "Where in the World" are both wonderful songs that are a joy to listen to.
