Reviews:
Enigma 1: Lest We Forget Grandeur
This is the first release from Michel Cretu's Enigma and it does not disappoint. It is a blend of chant, ambient rythms, techno burns and sexual innuendo. I loved it. Nothing at all wrong with spicing up a CD with a woman moaning (well to me it sounds like moaning) in Track 2: Principles of Lust. So boohoo to the critics. Let is Enigma fans revel in the uniqueness and plethora of beauty that these songs offer.
Mea Culpa is deeply emotive song full of Cretu's imperiously enchanting voice over. But the best song of the entire CD is the last track: Back to the Rivers of Belief. You have it all in that song, chanting, beats to the dancefloor and soft almost lyrical chiming music.
Beautiful CD. I love listening to it even if it is over a thousand times listening to this CD.
Enigma MCMXC a.d.---Ad infinitum!
I recollect at the age of thirteen, seeing the music video for "Sadeness Part 1" and I was positively enthralled with not only the fantastical images, but the unfathomably ethereal music! It was like nothing that I'd ever seen or heard hitherto! Suffice it to say, shortly thereafter,I hurried out to buy this album.I initially listened to its exquisite inotations upon the Walkman stereo that I had had at the time. This was before I was to sleep for the night. From enchantingly enticing beginning to graciously glorious end,I was in a state of rapture.I listened to it, in all its awesome entirety two more times that night, before finally falling to sleep.Inspiring, highly erotic, and ultimately, utterly transcendant--it is a true masterpiece! What I especially love about this album is that it comes "full circle"--(if you will). My favorite song ,above all songs ,by ANY artist, is still--"Back to the Rivers of Belief"--in its complete sequence.I am twenty-seven now and this is still my favourite music(and I humbly thank Michael Cretu for being the mastermind behind such innovative brilliance!)--and my favourite album.I am still exceptionally fond of each album that has been released by Enigma since--but this one resonates with my soul--the most! The moon, the stars, lofty mountains, the sea--ancient cathedrals, monks in their signature hooded robes, beautiful men and women in sensual episodes, falling rain, horses and carriages, swords, courageous warriors and honourable kings, the images for me continue ever on...Utopia...
Soul Moving and Dreamy
This CD has been played SO many times in my CD player since I first owned it when I was about 13 years old. I am now 25 and I never get tired of hearing this CD. When I put this CD in and take in the music that is being projected through the speakers I am whisked away into another world; a world without pain or suffering and a world full of beautiful dreams. Put this CD in when you want to relax or even meditate. This CD is also appropriate for putting yourself into a relaxed state of sleep. This album is also perfect for a romantic and intimate setting with someone special. I recommend this CD to anyone no matter what type of music you like.
