Description: Before there was a Destiny's Child there was En Vogue. Once dubbed the Supremes of the '90s after snaring two consecutive number one hits in 1990 and three Top Ten hits three years later, the Oakland-based group went through an identity crisis when lead singer Dawn Robinson left the band in 1997. In 2003 the band was able to regain their equilibrium after Rhonda Bennett, a former regular on the Jamie Foxx Show, joined founding members Terry Ellis and Cindy Herron in the line-up after talks with Robinson and other original member Maxine Jones fell through. Though Robinsons dash and sass is sorely missed, this new configuration blends pristine vocal arrangements and close jazzy harmonies that approaches some of the original bands best moments. While theres some real gems on the disc--like the coy-but-clever "Ooh Boy," the arch ache of "Dissed Him," and the spiteful "All You See," which is as sneering as anything Missy Elliot is putting out--much of the disc just doesn't live up to high water mark of their '90s releases. But thats not to say there isnt hope. En Vogue is working with longtime producers Denzil Foster and Thomas McElroy again--who penned the discs two best hits--so theres every chance that the "Funky Divas" will once again perch atop the charts in their lofty stilettos. --

Reviews:
EN VOGUE'S BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I really enjoyed the album, only complaint that I have is that cindy and Rhona's voice sound so similar it was hard to tell between the two. Now i'm hearing that their will be a En vogue reunion with all of the orginal members, that album is going to be the bomb!!!!!!!!!!
Never matches up to the title
Ah, how my heart skipped a beat when i learned that En Vogue was comming back with another album. I enjoyed Masterpiece Theater and while it was met with dismal reviews and sales, my faith in them as a power vocal group remained in tact.
When I got the album and learned that Terri and Cyndi were back but Maxine was replaced with somebody else... my heart dropped a little. my faith suddenly waivered. You see... after Dawn left, maxine was the only scource of sass left... and with her gone I was afraid that the new album would reveal the obviousness of her departure.
My fears were confirmed. Sure, the vocal harmonies were there. To say that they were spectacular would be completely kidding myself and anyone who is interested in this album but has not purchased it our listened to it. The sass is non-existent and the whole album suffers from that missing En Vogue quality. What exactly were they thinking?
Only a couple of songs manage to stand out but in doing so they do not really highlight the strength of the new reformed group; instead tose few songs manage to reveal the weaknesses. It would appear that the three remaining ladies do not have much of a voacal range and with that missing along with the sass... just what of En Vogue is left. The names of two of four ladies? Is that enough? Hardly. I bought this album in a moment of utter excitement only to have my excitement smashed by dull arrangements and lackluster vocal deliveries. Even with "All You See", which could have been quite venomous, is flimsy and suffers from and epidemic of elementary lyrics and a cheesey chorus. I hope they can do better... but as of now, if they do not release anything else it may be a blessing in disguise as more fans like me are sparred from another devastating dissapointment such as this.
The Soul Flower Has Wilted!
I don't know why En Vogue hasn't taken the hint that they aren't as fly as they used to be. Their previous album "Masterpiece Theatre" bombed terribly. Now they have completely changed their style and their music. Plus they lost another member, Maxine, who had one of the strongest voices in the group. The material on "Soul Flower" was severely weak. The lyrics were unimaginative and truth be told, I was actually praying for the album to END! The only reason I gave this album 2 stars instead of one was because the artwork was creative. So if you DON'T wanna waste your money, I strongly suggest that you DO NOT buy this CD!!!
