Reviews:
"The CD soundtrack is just as goos as the DVD movie!"
"Of all of Elvis Presley's movie soundtrack albums from the 1960's none have been so intiguing to me as has this one for "IT HAPPENED AT THE WORLD'S FAIR", from 1963. Unlike most others from this decade, this one is very good. The songs compliment the action on the screen every single time. By far, the very best song in this lot is the longer film version of "One Broken Heart For Sale", which should have been issued on the originally released album and the single. Now, with this CD, you can finally have them both, along with the other 9 songs featured in the film. Coiincidentally; this was only one of a few 60s soundtrack albums by Elvis NOT to feature any non-movie bonus songs. The others were "G.I. Blues', "Blue Hawaii", "Girls! Girls! Girls!", and "Frankie And Johnny". Nonetheless, this album makes a great companion to the movie, which has just been released on DVD for the very first time. By all means, you will not be disappointed with them."
Happy Ending:The review of It Happened At The World's Fair
Well this being my 3rd Cd from the FTD Label I must say that with out a doubt if you are a Elvis fan you should buy this CD it has Excellent Outtakes and the sound quality is A + work. The songs are the typical Elvis Presley Fun Movie Songs it is a pleasure to see this as one of the first released but I hope Viva Las vegas is in the next 3 and Girls ! Girls ! Girls! and Follow That Dream. Great Songs from this Great Sounstrack Are:
Take Me To The Fair
Beyond The Bend
One Broken Heart For Sale
Happy Ending
How Would You Like To Be
Elvis Presley, Singer
In between takes for Hollywood Musical soundtrack recordings he rarely hummed notes from the actual tunes on the drawing board - for this late '62 session he treated all in earshot excerpts of arias or sophisticated pop like "I Apologize". Point is, he loved to sing. And even if the session was structured for a typically light vehicle that passion is brought forth: listen to his dramatic treatment of the children's song "Cotton Candy Land." Yes, the '50s purists will sit slack-jawed but those of us who just want to enjoy great singing won't be disappointed. The single 'B' side "They Remind Me Too Much Of You", one of his best ballads, not surprisingly composed by Don Robertson (who also plays organ on this side), sports an astonishing vocal. Again we some something Presley's original fans might be confused by, but this is true art - even if it was somewhat "lost" on an unaccountably lesser-selling 45rpm. On this new deluxe CD we get four cuts of it!
"Relax" is a kind of good-natured seduction song, supporting a very sexy scene with Yvonne Craig. It's interesting to hear Elvis work out the intro. with drummer D. J. Fontana.
"One Broken Heart For Sale" is a catchy upbeat tune, something in the "Return To Sender" chemistry, and Presley digs in heavy. It appears that he thought enough of the tune to make both a movie *and* record version. The movie take is longer but a bit softer. Both are here in vivid sound. The original film and l.p. closer is "Happy Ending", another bit which has little relevance outside the flick, but Elvis' singing is spectacular - when the arrangement (aparently) shifts keys up a step, he gets even more into it.
Ofcourse this offer is for the well-entrenched EP collector. The booklet is well put together.
"World's Fair" is, to me, along with most of "Fun In Acapaulco", the next such venture, to feature a certain enthused determination missing from the later efforts.
