Reviews:

"First Lady of Song & Frank DeVol ~ Ella Fitzgerald"

Do you know how difficult it is to choose the best album ever, or outstanding tracks on "Hello Love", as we take a listeners journey through twelve tunes into the late fiftys. What is so nice about this collection is "YOU GO TO MY HEAD"..."WILLOW WEEP FOR ME"...I'M THRU WITH LOVE"..."SPRING WILL BE A LITTLE LATE THIS YEAR" and "I'VE GROWN ACCUSTOMED TO HIS FACE", recorded March 25. 1959...is so light and fresh.

The next sessions were "EVERYTHING HAPPENS TO ME"..."LOST IN A FOG"...I'LL NEVER BE THE SAME"..."SO RARE", recorded October 28, 1957. The final sessions were "TENDERLY"...STAIRWAY TO THE STARS" and "MOONLIGHT IN VERMONT", recorded July 24, 1957...Ella's recordings could fill an entire library, her performance is flawless each tune is more satisfying than the previous one.

Ella's style is so timeless as you're instantly amazed by her voice. There are more complete collections than this one, but this is a great introduction to her career which include collaborations with Frank DeVol and His Orchestra...each cue takes on a delightful bit of improvisation, blending a vibrant expressive of, don't take yourself too seriously attitude.

Evidently Norman Granz, her manager knew a good thing when he took her under his wing...even though a contract was never signed between them, love and respect was there right from the beginning. If you only purchase one album by the "First Lady of Song", this collection is a keeper!

Ella's best

Since I first knew Ella I loved both her scat singing and her lovely treatment of ballads. When I knew few of her work I dreamed about her singing a song that I learned from Miss Monroe on "Someone like it hot", that is "I'm thru with love".

When I discovered this Album, I unhearted a trasure full of gemms and gold, that everytime gives me joy and pure emotions! I simply LOVE this album, and I hope it will be soon reissue on standard CD, so that everyone in the world could listen to it, everyday, forever!!!!

hello love

I'm just responding to Jay Scornick. Is this the Jay that worked for Bobo video?

The perfect Lady

This was an album of surprises after all those songbooks! It is a fantastic numbers of songs delivered by Ella in fantastic back-up. Each song is a favorite of mine and her delivery is probaly at her best. This has been a favorite of mine for since its released and I just bought another copy imported and I could listed at several times a day. I miss her and gems like this very much. Enjoy yourself and have it in your special albums for all time....
