Reviews:
Excellent live concert...THIS is Earth Wind Fire
I own various records and DVDs of Earth Wind Fire....this is the one I pop in the most and the most energetic. Man...those trumpets and voices..and the bass and drums....tight and funky.
Don't think twice...this is the one you want
Maurice's last concert tour?
I saw Earth Wind and Fire live in Des Moines, Iowa the summer of 2002. But this......this set........OH MY GOODNESS. These guys have been one of the greatest live acts in history - in any genre - and this is some of the best they've caught on tape. It takes up where Gratitude (a classic) left off twenty years earlier. I think I heard somewhere that this concert tour was Maurice's last. The significance of this is evident in the performance. Everybody came out with fingers and lungs a-blazing. Their hearts were a-thump'n and their souls were shine'n bright. I was eight rows from the front at the concert in Des Moines. I'm there again in my mind when I listen to this disc. This, though, has far more energy, emotion and polish. What a fun, positive and uplifting record. If you're a fan, this is a MUST for your collection. If you're not familiar with the "ELEMENTS OF THE UNIVERSE", introduce yourself and get YOUR heart a-thump'n too.
My first review...fantastic performance....but
...and I know this will probably be odd, but fantastic music aside, the packaging and artwork of this CD/Album is just bad.
The photography is regular, nothing special, I was holding the bookley and just wishing there were LIVE PHOTOS of the performance, a bit of background on where and when exactly they recorded the live songs. Plus maybe a story from the main members. The main covers EWF logo is just so amaturish 3-D computer aided...aargh! Wheres the majestic artwork from the classic days? At least a great live photo of them would of been good.
I think Earth Wind & Fire deserve much more attention to detail rather than corny design and graphics and a few generic lines of their greatness.
It almost, almost ruined the experience, but I just put the covers away and really enjoyed the music which was super tight and amazingly well performed and recorded!
Again, I do hope that they re-design the packaging and inserts one day or something, it will elevate the experience right upto the music! So with that, its highly recommended if you ignore the artwork.
