Description: Steeped in the country-rock sound of the Byrds and Flying Burrito Brothers (guitarist/banjo player Bernie Leadon had been a member of the latter) and the burgeoning So-Cal singer-songwriter movement (Jackson Browne contributes to a pair of songs on the album), the Eagles 1972 debut is full of breezy hit singles ("Take It Easy," "Peaceful Easy Feeling") and stinging rock ("Witchy Woman," "Take the Devil"). Thanks to Leadon's presence, there's a bluegrass feel to songs like "Nightingale" and "Early Bird." Mostly, though, the album offers a sampling of the L.A. scene's laid-back early-70s optimism, with just a hint of the darkness to come.

Reviews:
Brilliant debut album!!!!!!
Thanks for reading.
I'm surprised reading some reviews that this album receives such poor comments from people. This stuff is brilliant and has awesome songs!
As usual the album is a great mix of slower and faster songs. The early line-up was great, albiet missing Don Felder. ( forget about Walsh )
What's remarkable for me is not the hit songs " Take it Easy" "Witchy women" and " Peaceful Easy Feeling " ( which are all wonderful songs ) it's the OTHER songs. Some are just brilliant, including " Chug all night"
"Tryin" and the best non single ever from the Eagles " Take the Devil" Mind blowing song from Randy Miesner.
Great guitar and melodies as usual.
This is my second favourite Eagles album, just pipped by " One of these nights"
A must for music fans in general. This is GREAT MUSIC!!!
Essential for your collection
The debut of America's best selling act
It was in June of 1972 that classic rock legends The Eagles released their self-titled debut album, which was a great blend of pop, rock and country.
Drummer Don Henley, bassist Randy Meisner, guitarist Bernie Leadon and guitarist/keyboardist Glenn Frey would finally have the chance to prove to the world that they were musical geniuses after first playing together in legendary country/rock/pop singer Linda Ronstadt's backing band and after they finished the tour with Linda she blessed the guys to break out on their own and the band didn't forget her and she subsequently signed to Asylum thanks to The Eagles' success. The band has since this debut became the best-selling American band of all time, and is also one of the Top 4 ahead of Pink Floyd and behind only Led Zeppelin and The Beatles.
This debut album was produced and engineered by Glyn Johns, the same man responsible for engineering albums by The Who, Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, The Faces and The Beatles among others.
The heavily country-influenced Take It Easy opens this stellar album and was a great intro to The Eagles. The rock classic Witchy Woman follows and was the world's intro to Henley's voice which would become more dominant in later albums(he would also sing the rocking Nightingale). The rocking Chug All Night follows and has superb vocals from Glenn. Randy steps out in front for the ballad Most of Us Are Sad which is a great song. The aforementioned Nightingale follows and is a great rocker.
The second half kicks off with guitarist Bernie's country tinged Train Leaves Here This Morning and is a great song. The countryish-rocker Take The Devil is chilling with a great Meisner vocal. The country-ish Earlybird follows and has Bernie on vocals and just kicks ass. The slower but still excellent tune Peaceful Easy Feeling follows and was the album's other hit single. The album closes with the rocker Tryin which was one of Randy's best vocal performances.
This album has held up well and this was the last Eagles album I bought in 1991 when I was 15 on cassette and regretted not buying it earlier. This album is a classic and is highly recommended!
The Eagles started here.....
This is where they started, back in 1972. But should you start here? Here's the rundown:
1. Take It Easy - A catchy song with lead lyrics by Glenn Frey.
2. Witchy Woman - Don Henley takes the lead to this haunting rock song.
3. Chug All Night - A cool southern rock song.
4. Most of Us Are Sad - As you guessed, this is kind of slow and sad, but it's still good.
5. Nightingale - Kind of odd to me, but then again, that's me.
6. Train Leaves Here This Morning - Hmmm, just okay in my opinion.
7. Take the Devil - A cool rock track.
8. Early Bird - A weird tune. Not my taste, but whatever.
9. Peaceful Easy Feeling - Another easygoing song by Glenn Frey.
10. Tryin' - Underrated track. "You can make it if you try....."
A must-buy for Eagles fans, but I wouldn't start where the Eagles started; you might get the wrong idea about their music.
