A reason why Ozzy saved a listener's life
Duarn Duran were popular in the early 1980s and are now a washed up joke. My buddy Terrence J Reardon smashed his copy of this album after his sister bought him Bark At the Moon by Ozzy(no lie)! Songs like The Reflex and Union of the Snake sound poor today. Buy Bark At the Moon instead!
Memorable album
As already said this is the 3rd DD album, dated 1983. It s a differnet path from thei first work (Duran Duran) and Rio. DD undertook a more rock-commercial path with songs like The Reflex and New Moon on Monday (dancing beat!). But for tme the beauty of this CD is in the other tracks: The seventh Stranger, a struggling ballad with SImon's voice at the top, Tiger Tiger, one of the most beautiful instrumental track ever, Shadows on your side, very 80's song with glittering music, The Union of the Snake, one of the most mature track of the album.
DD are 4 albums: DD, RIO, this one and ASTRONAUT (their smashing 2004 come back album).
If you liked RIO, this will bring you into a different direction; but it is needed if you want to get inot the soul and mood of this band.
Not the best, but an important CD
Many of us from the 80's first bought "Rio" and thought man this is good. Then, we bought the first record and thought, man, this one is better. Then, 20 years later, we go back and listen to all of the records and think they all sound dated but when we listen to the 3rd effort "Seven and the Ragged Tiger," we think, man, this one is good, more listenable in the year 2005 then its 2 predecessors. I think many of the new revival bands today have taken much from this collection of Duran Duran. The tracks are uneven and not classics, but there is something that says, man this was an important record.Just listen to the Killers or Franz Ferdinand. "Seven" is an important record. The songs are good but not great. The instrumental "Tiger Tiger" beckons Roxy Music---dreamy, exotic, Romantic, ethereal....This is probably the best song on the record--a backdrop for any occasion. "The Seventh Stranger" is probably the second best song on the record--an extension of "Tiger Tiger" but with lyrics--dreamy, weaving synthesizers around Simon's voice. The Reflex and Union of the Snake are excellent songs--good choices for the Ipod when it comes to choosing Duran Duran hits easily holding their own against any of the good 80's tunes. Overall, it was Duran's last voice of the early 80's ---a disappointment at the time, but a hit now.
