At the time, I expected Fairweather friends to be released as a single, but it wasn't. Johnny Cash co-wrote the song but didn't record the song himself until a couple of years later - and although I am a huge Johnny Cash fan, I much prefer Don's version. I found the song particularly poignant, as I was going through a period when I discovered that a number of friends were very much of the fair weather variety.
Other great tracks include Years from now (which I already knew via Dr Hook's version of the song) and I've got you to thank for that.
This CD will confirm once again that what makes good Country music is good songs. Good songs don't need to be overproduced. Contrast this album with today's production debacles that have lasting appeal for about 30 days ;-)
As a teenager, this album was my first exposure to Country. After I listened, I no longer thought of it as Country, but felt comfortable with putting it right up there with the best Pop music on the market.
Years later (many more than I like to admit) I have finally purchased this fine album on CD. On the first listen I instantly remembered just how good it is!
This album holds up just as good today as it did in 1981. In my opinion, it still is better than 90% of what is marketed as Country music today.
Do yourself a favor and get this CD.
Happy listening!
