Reviews:
A single CD that is a collector's delight even though brief.
For those of us who want to experience some of the very best songs the great Dinah Washington ever sang, this is a great CD to start with. This CD is budget priced (a nice plus when everything is expensive these days) and comes with very good photos of Dinah. Yes, I do have to agree with the reviewer who writes that this is not a comprehensive package of her work--but then again, all the songs are on one CD so the manufacturers weren't trying to be thorough.
A nice treat is the two songs here Dinah sang with Brook Benton: very well put together and they sound wonderful together despite the rumors that Dinah couldn't stand Brook Benton! Dinah really works when singing "This Bitter Earth;" notice the slight pause just after she sings the word "This." It's the little things and nuances in Washington's work that make her songs so special. I personally love the song "September In The Rain;" it's thoughtful and very beautiful.
I recommend this CD for people who want a brief and inexpensive Dinah Washington CD that still has some very good quality. Enjoy! GRIN
Not long enough, but...
Kind of a no-nonsense, bare-bones hits package, including her biggest hit, "What A Diff'rence A Day Makes," along with similarly swank, pop-oriented material such as "Unforgettable," "Baby, You've Got What It Takes" and "Baby, Get Lost." Sure, there's plenty more Dinah Washington worth checking out, but for a quick, inexpensive look at her best known stuff, this overview of her later years is pretty darn efficient.
