Description: Spanning 30 years and encompassing 38 tracks, including some rescued from the vaults, this anthology of Miss Ross's solo output is essential for any diva wannabe. The hits alone will keep a fan satisfied. And what hits: "Ain't No Mountain High Enough," "Reach out and Touch," "Theme from Mahogany," the still sublime "Love Hangover," the endlessly sampled and still funky "Upside Down," and "Good Morning Heartache" from Lady Sings the Blues, are just a few of the jewels in Ross's musical crown. Among the rarities that help make this collection a treat is a previously unreleased cover of Laura Nyro's wise and soulful "Time and Love," which back in 1970 was slated to be Ross's debut solo single. Sounding girlish and joyful, the cut, like the rest of this collection, reminds you why Diana Ross remains a touchstone for female pop and R&B. --Amy Linden

Reviews:

baby it s...the best of ross

this is one of the best ROSS collections to cover her 70s motown solo years .my only complaint was the inclusion of the later hits from the 90s that seemed out of place here instead of including her 70s tracks such as YOU GOT IT,YOUR LOVE IS SO GOOD,TOP OF THE WORLD.Why is it motown alwasy seems to skip one of her best lps ,BABY IT ME.although this was not one of her biggest selling lps ,it was one of her best.but usually most of the tracks from this lp are excluded from her hits collection.you would think since this cd is an overview of her career they would pull out all the stops.but again they missed some key tracks.still the best ross overview to come out.but you will have to buy the cd BABY IT S ME!

Great overview of Dianas career

Motown have been hooking us up with a few real high quality anthology's recently, and this two disc solo set follows on from the Supremes. Diana Ross broke out from the Supremes in the 70s after a string of classic singles through the 60s. Eventually her career tailed off but this album captures the best of her output, and the 70s were a real strong period for her. There's way too many classics to name, but I have to say `I'm Still Waiting' is my all time Diana cut. Also, Marvin Gaye and Lionel Richie make cameos, which only adds to an already strong set. (I wish they had included `Stop, Look, Listen' with Marvin, an all time soul classic, and where's the Marvin dedication, `Missing You'?)

Much like the Smokey Robinson solo anthology, you'll find Diana's material on disc two is a lot less strong than disc one, as like Smokey, she kind of loses her touch & goes off in the wrong directions, but this is mostly essential listening and the digital remastering for extra bump & clarity is the icing on the cake. Motown, hook us up with the Temptations, Four Tops, & do a proper job on Marvin for once.

The cream of Diana Ross's solo Motown years

This 38-track set is superb. Everything is nearly 100% perfect: the remastering, the track selection, the cover art, the liner notes. It is complete covering Diana's full Motown solo years: 1970-1981 and then 1989-1999. Features never-before released tracks, including Diana's version of "Time And Love" produced by Bones Howe (the 5th Dimension's producer!) More highlights:

* Remember Me - alternate vocal take newly mixed in 2001 by Suha Gur

* Home - the Motown/Gil Askey version of the Wiz standard - superior to the Wiz soundtrack version

* never-released 12" remix of "No One Gets The Prize"

* Mono single mix of Ain't No Mountain High Enough

* the long 7-minute version of Love Hangover

* an alternate version of the Marvin Gaye duet "My Mistake" !!

ALL the big classics are here, with a generous helping of first-time-on-CD tracks!!! Superb sound quality; the BEST of any prior Diana Ross solo hits set. Truly does justice to a superlative and legendary career. At the end of day, it's about the music --- forget the hype about Ross's personal life --- she was the original diva and literally defined crossover. 40 years of music and counting!
