immortal

the amount of time this track has been sampled especially in the dance ranks is unchallenged this is pure electronic pleasure that still gets spun in all the clubs in oz and on the radio. like the title i just cant get enough of this one. Robert Borg (Melbourne Australia)

Just can't get enough DM

One of DM's early classics, a Top 10 hit in the U.K. in late 1981 which got into the American dance charts the following year. Although it is very light and happy and may be seen as fluff compared to their more recent material, and although Dave Gahan still needed a few more years of vocal training when this was recorded, this is the perfect song to listen to when you want to feel good - it's one of the few DM songs that actually can arouse that type of emotion. Also one of the few DM songs written by Vince Clarke that I can actually understand!!!! (Thank God he went on to Yaz and Erasure - his future was not with DM.) I laugh when I think of how critics hated them for songs like this...... it's super-sweet bubblegum but it won't rot your teeth. One of my all-time favorite DM songs.

the B-sides are good

Sure, this is lightweight synth-pop. And the 2 versions of Just Can't Get Enough are pretty widely available ( the long remix was even put on Speak and Spell's original US pressing ). It's "Any Second Now" that I really like. The version on the Speak and Spell album had vocals. It was even called "Any Second Now ( Voices )" but these two versions are instrumentals. More like dub versions, as they are vastly different. A very pretty song indeed - unlike most of their earlier material, it showed a softer, more introspective DM at a time when they churned out lightweight synth-pop ( like Just Can't Get Enough ). I added one star because of the cover - I adore it.
