Description: To have resisted Def Leppard's radio power in their heyday, you'd have to have been a critic--and even some of us could hardly argue with the likes of "Photograph," "Animal," and "Bringin' on the Heartbreak."
Vault covers a decade and a half of hits by the one-time wonder boys of the new wave of British metal, but perhaps inevitably concentrates on singles from the multiplatinum
Pyromania and
Hysteria. It offers little meaning beyond fun fun fun, but there are hooks here that Noel Gallagher would punch a paparazzo for.

Reviews:
Excellent Hard Rock From A Band That Couldn't Be Stopped
It seems that fter going through a long phase where I listened to soft rock and adult contemporary (ie, Barry Manilow and The Carpenters), I have finally fallen back into the hard rock that once dominated my record collection. In the last few months, I've purchased cds by Aeromsith, Heart, Kiss, Billy Idol and Van Halen (though I love the soft rock stuff just as much).
Def Leppard's "Vault - Greatest Hits" is the latest cd in my hard rock spree. Def Leppard is without a doubt one of the quintessential hard rock bands. From their volatile looks to their thrilling songs through brilliant instrumental skills (including a drummer who could play with only one arm), they had it all.
"Vault" is a 15 - track cd that collects all of Def Lep's biggest songs, which include the rock standard "Pour Some Sugar On Me", the eerie ballad "Love Bites", the turbo charged "Armageddon It" and "Let's Get Rocked", the tender "Two Steps Behind" and the rock radio staples "Photograph", "Rock Of Ages" (I love that gibberish line before the intro), "Animal" and "Bringin' On The Heartbreak". All these songs are true rock classics, along with the others I haven't mentioned. Especially great is the power ballad "When Love And Hate Collide", the new single from the album when it was released in 1995.
Bottom line: this cd is essential for any fan of classic rock or any type of music for that matter. If you don't like it than, in this reviewer's opinion, you have no taste in music.
Hope you like sappy love ballads
That's a majority of this cd, sappy love ballads. I like Def Leppard, but they came out with some real crappy songs, and three of them are on this one. I'm ok with them having 2 steps behind, they should've had the electric version. It was probably the hit from that album/ a bit of a stocker theme song. Miss you in a heartbeat, Have you needed someone, and the unreleased song should've been left off of this one. They don't have a single song from their first album and they're missing Too late for love and Let it go. I thought greatest hits albums were supose to have the band's best songs and none of their crappy ones. I don't need to hear some guy crying about not having a girl. This guy's had plenty I'm sure. Hell I remember the behind the music. They talked about getting chicks a lot. That and the drummer losing his arm. If you want a collection of Def Leppard's best songs, find someone who has the cd's and a cd burner and make your own. This one isn't worth it, well maybe if your girlfriend is mad at you and you need a sappy song to dedicate to her.
Yuck!
Pyromania was the first LP I ever purchased back in 1983 (I think that was the year) after hearing the song Photograph on the radio. I then purchased High N Dry soon after that. Def Leppard became one of my favorite bands, and High N Dry is still one of my favorites. I think their last decent album was Hysteria, but they have produced nothing but trash since then. If your going to dish out $15 for a cd, spend it on High N Dry and Pyromania. Hysteria is good, but it was the start of the group selling out. On Through The Night is also good, but isnt as polished as High and Pyro. The bulk of the songs on this Greatest Hits disc are garbage in my opinion.Steve Clarke was the brains behind the group, and one of the most underrated rock guitarists of the 80's. Since his death, they have become a joke....
