Reviews:

Dean Martin sings songs suited to his bedroom voice

The 1959 release "Sleep Warm" was Dean Martin's third full-length (i.e, 12-inch LP) album. It was also his most successful because it fully embraced the idea that Dino was in the tradition of Frank Sinatra by having Old Blue Eyes serve as the conductor of Pete King's heavy on the strings arrangements (how often do you see the name of the conductor on an album being the same size as the name of the artist, outside of classical music?). The story is that Sinatra picked the songs for this album as well to go with Martin's bedroom voice, from the title track to Braham's Lullaby. In between you will find the Johnny Mercer song "Dream," along with "Cuddle up a Little Closer," "Goodnight Sweetheart," and "Dream a Little Dream of Me." In other words, you will recognize the songs but probably have not heard Dean Martin sing them. Not as popular as Martin's recordings of Italian songs, "Sleep Warm" is an above-average album, even if it does not fit the idea of the singer as always having a drink in one hand and a cigarette in the other. Ultimately Martin was much more comfortable in that role, but this album shows he could be more subtle in his singing as well.

Oh, Dean...

I wasn't much of a fan of this genre (Dean, Frank, Tony), but as my child began playing this (a 16 yr old in this day and age?) music, I've fallen for Dean's voice.

If you've enjoyed his other recordings (Italian love songs, etc.) this is a delightful change of pace. This is, by far, the best of his recordings showing off his smooth, velvet voice & his ability to deliver it in a tender way.

Sexy without being overt, naughty without the nasty, it's a delicious listen.

So sexy

I cant believe I haldnt heard this CD in the 3 years since I first started to love Frank and Dean. Ive seen it before but never thought of buying it. These orchestrations and arrangements are so perfect and smooth. What better combination can you have then Dean and Frank.
This is a must when the ladies are over!
