Description: Dean Martin's holiday specials qualified as "must-see TV" decades before that phrase was coined. His easygoing charm and velvety smooth voice won over a generation of fans in the 1950s and 1960s--and still holds sway over modern-day hipsters. This holiday album helps to show why. Never one for cheap sentiment, Dino sticks to the sultry ballads that he knows so well, emphasizing tunes like "Baby, It's Cold Outside" and "I've Got My Love to Keep Me Warm" over traditional carols. --David Sprague

Reviews:

Cheap rip off of Dean's "A Winter's Romance"

Buy the Capital release entitled "A Winter's Romance", and get an ORIGINAL with all 13 songs, not 10. This CD is a CHEAP RIPOFF!

Christmas With Dino

No matter how crazy the Christmas season becomes for us all , with endless shopping lines, (and in 2000, slow internet connections) along with running the kids here and there for Christmas programs and practices, we all still have memories (real or imagined) of sitting quietly by the fire looking at the Christmas tree with snow falling quietly in the backround....etc. There is no one better than Dean Martin to help us conjour up these images, even if we are listening to him while sweating over the latest credit card statement. When you put on this CD and lean back, instead of hearing the music coming out of your speakers, you expect to turn around and see Dean leaning easily against the doorway, drink in one hand, cigarette in the other, singing "Baby, It's Cold Outside" or crooning "Rudolph", or any other Christmas song. With Dino, what song it is doesn't seem to matter. His easygoing, throw-away delivery puts you at ease and gives your mind a momentary break from the hectic whirlwind of the holidays. So...buy this CD, smile, and remember Dino this holiday season.

Smoooooooth gorgeous stuff!

Dean Martin's "Season's Greetings" is the only Dean Martin album I own--a friend got it for me after being shocked that it was not part of our Christmastime CD collection. I have been really very pleasantly surprised by it. What an incredibly smooooooth voice this native Ohioan was blessed with, and how skillfully he uses it! The album opens with "White Christmas," on which Martin conveys regret and longing beautifully. The very next song--"Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!" is a gorgeously boppy, finger-poppin' Rat Pack rendition of this classic Christmas tune. Martin sounds as though he's holding a martini and a cigarette while he's singing, and that's part of the fun. What can I say--the guy was the epitome of cool!

On the underused "Baby, It's Cold Outside," Martin tries to convince a cadre of female singers to stay inside with him ("I'll hold your hands, they're just like ice")--I know I'd be convinced! "Winter Wonderland" incorporates sleigh bells, smooth violins, and oohing-aahing background singers to evoke a fantasy winter snowscape. "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" never sounded as good and as swingin' as it does here in Martin's capable hands. His voice is so mellow, so rich, so inimitably smooth that every song is a delight. Highly recommended!

SNOWY NIGHT? RELAX , WITH DINO...

This CD is your companion on that snowy night where you are better off hangin' close to home. The nastier the blizzard the better, because when you and your friend, together, have this album playin', a fire, a little grog, and maybe some Italian on the stove -- well, it just doesn't get any better.

Dino gets the mood just right... That is, a perfect collection of tunes, arrangements for all that might find themeselves lucky enough to be trapped in Mother Nature's winter wonderland.

By the way, this album is darn good anywhere, anytime, anyplace!!

Warm fuzzies for the cold season!

Nifty little (only 25 minutes) cd for your holiday collection. Holiday and just plain winter time classics crooned only the way Dino could do it.
