Description: On Dashboard Confession's fourth album, Christopher Carraba welcomes listeners back into his emotionally claustrophobic world, where relationships are minefields, women are brittle and self-absorbed, and every cloud has a pewter lining. But all this is only fodder for his runaway id, as he deconstructs every encounter, giving us evidence of the pain and betrayal that lurks behind every corner. Finding a home somewhere between the positive punk of Green Day, circa "Time of Your Life," and the stream-of-consciousness poetry of the early Counting Crows, this collection is more musically coherent than Dashboard Confessional's earlier albums. Gil Norton's production has taken the band to new heights, allowing the music to have as much grit, substance, and dynamics as the lyrics. The anxious expectorated sputum of "Am I Missing," is an existential assault on your very sanity, with its fretful drumming and spectral chorus, but this album doesn't sound just that one apprehensive note; Carraba is equally at home with the sparse, acoustic ballad "Ghost of a Good Thing" and the folksy rocker "Carve Your Heart Out Yourself," which could have been lifted from a Buffalo Springfield album. By giving voice to the thoughts that go bump in the night, Carraba gives vulnerability and sincerity a good name again.

A Curse, An Insult, A Coaster, A Piece Of S**t
Yes, I listen to "emo" music. (call it indie punk instead) I listen to Taking Back Sunday, Further Seems Forever, Brand New, Thursday and s**t like that, but the emo band that I HATE is Doucheboard Confessional. Ugghhh...
Chris Cabberra decides to lay off the acoustics and create a rock album. It is better? Nope, it sucks balls. I actually heard "Hands Down" on the mainstream radio. Are any of these bands above played on the mainstream? Hell no, they're just way too damn good. I don't care if they're on Vagrant with GOOD bands like The Get-up Kids, Alkaline Trio, Senses Fail, Hey Mercedes and such, THEY STILL SUCK! Many of the kids that like indie punk (I almost typed in emo) even hate Dashboard Confessional. I'd advise you'd buy a Thursday CD instead.
Also, go to emogame.com. That game is hilarious. They tease Chris Carrabba by saying he has ovaries.
Another excellent album from dashboard!!!
I disagree completely with the other reviewers about a mark, a mission... IT may have a different sound, but this is still a great CD! Chris is getting better with each album that he writes. ghost of a good thing is gorgeous. As are all the songs on this CD. I cannot wait for their new CD.
just as good as the first
i love this album. dashboard has got to be one of my all time favorite bands. thier new album is just as good as the first. the fact that it is not in the usual acoustic style just shows that the band has a wide range and can sound good no matter how they play. the lyrics are still as touching as they've always been. and the vocals couldn't be any more beautiful. this album just showcases their talent with other styles of playing. but no matter what they are still dashboard confessional and they are still great.
