Best Yet
I've been a fan since Savage Garden. After hearing brief clips of this new music, I ordered the CD. I am absolutly impressed with the quality of the music. Beautiful and energetic and well worth buying the import if this never is released in the US market.
Darren Does Electronica!!! A+
Executives at Sony records must be insane. This CD has been out overseas for about 6 months now & has returned Darren to the top of the European charts with 2 hit singles & counting. The first single, "Pop!ular" has just hit #1 on the American dance charts, with no help from his American label- & yet they STILL have no plans on releasing the album here in the states. What a shame, since this is the best work Darren has ever done- with or without Savage Garden. Rumor has it that Sony feels the album is too "raw," too big a departure from Savage Garden, and American listeners must be protected from anything this shocking!
Darren has found his true direction on this album. With the help of producers Robert Conley & Mark "Spike" Stent (who has worked with Bjork, Depeche Mode, Madonna, etc.), Darren has created an album of dark, edgy electronica with addictive melodies & intensley personal lyrics that listeners can still connect to. There are plenty of tear-jerking ballads here, as well as some Depeche Mode-like dance tunes. Darren Hayes has finally found his groove on this album & I hope he will stick with it. He's never really sounded "savage" until now.
Darren's best album to date.
When Darren Hayes went solo, I was heartbroken because Savage Garden had disbanded...but nevertheless excited that Darren would continue to do music. "Spin" was a great first effort, which still had some of that old Savage Garden sound and charm. I loved it and thought he couldn't top it. Then "Tension and the Spark" came out. I am also upset that it's not released yet to the USA, and I wound up shelling out the extra bucks anyway for it because I couldn't wait. The first time I heard it, I was like "Eh...oh well." I didn't think much of it easier. But with everytime I heard it, the album got better and better. I listen to it almost everyday. Each song is absolute perfection..."Darkness", "Ego", "Light", "Unlovable" and "Dublin Sky" are my absolute favorites, even though all of the others are equally masterful. Darren reaches new emotional depth in his lyrics...much darker and more personal than his previous work, it's almost like he's baring his soul to us.
I hope that he does release it to the USA, but then again I hope he doesn't because it makes us want it more now that we can't buy it just yet. I highly recommend this album to everyone who loves beautiful music with an edge. Go buy this today!
