Description: After rocking the suburbs with the infectious and persistent "Da Funk" (with its amusingly pointless Spike Jonze video), Gallic pranksters Daft Punk unleashed Homework, an album that combined everything good about house music with everything bad about French pop and changed the face of dance music in the process. The sound of production duo Thomas Bangalter and Guy Manuel de Homem is a raw and dirty collage of cheap drum machines (wired for maximum swing) welded to endless filtered loops and embellished with everything from guitars to talk-box vocals. The beats are lifted straight from the Chicago House textbook, but the simple bass lines and catchy hooks make a listenable pop song from what would normally be a stripped-down DJ tool. Uncompromising yet totally accessible. --Matthew Corwine

Reviews:

Best dance album of all-time?

If it's not, then it's gotta be near the top. Daft Punk's Homework is a masterpiece and despite what many people have said, there is NOT a single track on this album that isn't absolute perfection. Around the World, Da Funk, Hi Fidelity, Oh Yeah, Revolution 909, Burnin', Indo Silver Club, Phoenix...classic, classic, classic, classic, etc. Alive is probably my favorite song on the album, blast that song and you will go crazy. And I agree with what Y. Kim says about Rollin' & Scratchin'. Many people think this track blows but honestly this is one of the best songs on the CD, all you need is a little patience to appreciate it.

This is Daft Punk's best work, by the way...Discovery is almost as good but Homework beats it.

AWESOME!!!

great album.

Around the world is like 10x better than any other song on this album, but that doesnt mean the other ones arent great.

great songs that I think you should buy this album for:

Around the World(obviously), 10/10

Revolution 909- great song one of my favorites, has a nice beat. 10/10

Da Funk- good 8.5/10

Rollin & Scrachtin- believe or not, but I think this song is great, its my 2nd favorite song on this album 10/10

Teachers- takes a little getting used to at first 9/10

Oh yeah- Wonderful beat, makes me wanna dance! 10/10

Alive-9/10

the other songs are all 8/10, they are great songs. just not as good as the ones i listed.

An album for the ages

Daft Punk, what can I say? Some of their songs are going to be classics, and this album includes a few of them. While some of the songs and this album may be duds, several of them stand out besides the hits Da Funk and Around the World. Revolution 909, Hi Fidelity, and Alive go well with this album. One of the halmarks of Daft Punks sound is there ability to exploit the repetiveness of a beat, so more progressive minded fans may want to skip this one.

As far as buying this album, if your low on cash or not a fan of Daft Punk's other work, you might want to skip this one. There are a few songs on this album that aren't worth paying money to listen to frankly. However, if you are a fan or want to hear some other quality tracks this group has come out with, I would encourage you to buy this album.
