Reviews:

Ahead of her time....

Amazing to hear how innovative and creative Chaka was and is. She had the outlets between her Rufus ventures and her solo career to experiment and lay down some quality work. Yes she is hella funky!!! but there's more to her genre breaking arrangements and vocals that reveal themselves upon repeated listens. Naughty and it's predecessor "Chaka" are essential. Adventurous music with integrity and soul that stands the test of time.

Essential for Chaka Khan fans, Chanson Papillon

If you just discovered Chaka Khan then buy this album first. It has some of the best singing she ever did in her career. This album still gives me chills even after 25 years. Great production from Arif Mardin. INCREDIBLE band which includes Steve Ferrone on drums and Anthony Jackson on bass. I own the vinyl and CD but you must hunt down the vinyl to get the true experience. The vinyl features the gorgeous face picture on the jacket sleeve. This album has Whitney Houston singing background (when she was 16) and Luther Vandross (singing the male part on Papillon). Chaka also states in interviews this is her favorite album.

OOOOH So Naughty But SOOO Nice!!!!!

You won't get any argument from me that this album deserves 10 stars minimum because it's actually MUCH stronger then Chaka
Khan's very nice debut a year earlier.Reason being is because
CK was now aware`of what her own elan was outside Rufus and where she would take her music from there."Clouds","Move Me No
Mountain","Our Love's In Danger","What You Did","So Naughty" and "Too Much Love" take the 'I'm Every Woman' sound and turns it into a formula of sorts and actually extends on the theme with a much slinkier backdrop. The full blooded funk is gloriously represented on "All Day All Night" with the jazzy "Papillion" and "Get Ready,Get Set" spicing up the affair
along with a very dramatic rendering of "Move Me No Mountain" and that voice has never sounded grander.Female R&B artists these days can only hope for material of this caliber, mainly because they don't have the same kind of creative imput Chaka
had in her music and because their albums don't often have any
unifying theme. But these songs forboding arrangements, lyrical tales of love-lorn souls and outcasts make this the genuine
album her debut was not.An all time classic if I ever heard one.
