Reviews:
Karen had the lovliest voice I've ever heard...
How anyone can deny the sweetness and warmth (well, okay, sheer greatness) in Karen Carpenter's voice is a mystery to me. She was a beautiful talent, and her throat could reach phrases and emotions that most singers wish they had the ability to get. This album doesn't stand up as high concept, but it isn't supposed to be that way. Sometimes the seventies coyness and cuteness shows through, but that is more than forgivable. If you want spirit-lifting melodies and charming songs sung by the best female vocalist, then pick this up. If you own a greatest hits album, note that the lead guitars on both "Top of the World" and "Goodbye to Love" are altered and less flamboyant here.
the best carpenters cd I can say
All the songs, no doubt, are wonderful and you won't skip any songs when you play. The only drawback is the remastered version itself. I own an original version cd quite a while ago and the songs play so smooth and clear. However, this remastered CD made the songs a little awkward than usual. I can't say the technology or the remastering skills are bad but I just miss the way it sounds on the original version. So if you get a chance, go ahead and buy the vinyl version. (I am still wondering if there is the original version cd on the market)
Anyway, Karen and Richard made so wonderful on this cd. It has been 22 years since Karen left us. I am still missing her.
a masterpiece
this is one of the best albums of any genre I have ever heard. A Song For You is a song that I have heard sung by many artists, but few renditions have touched me the way the Carpenters version has. Intermission is very innovative and shows the craftsmanship that went into making this album. Road Ode, while not a hit, is one of my favorite Carpenter's songs.
gold recording
i bought this disc when it was first released. it is neat to see the gold disc and the way the disc is showcased. the dics lifts up when you open the case. pretty cool. it sounds good the hear the org. recording on this compleation. i hope richard realeases others like this one.
Looks like a GREATEST HITS itself
Few artists can have 6 or 7 top 20 in one album. The Carpenters defined what pop music is. They were the REAL gem of the 70's....No one can ever surpassed this duo's greatness
Almost A Greatest Hits Album
Note how many top ten singles are on here, especially "Goodbye To Love" and the original version of "Top Of The World". This is their finest album. This has been recently remastered and sounds even better.
