Reviews:

Celebrate the Passing of the Days

This is a welcome collection from Carole King's Capitol period of recordings in the late 70s & 1980's "Pearls." On the classics from the "Pearls" lp that were popular songs for other artists is her rocking version of "Locomotion," the classic "One Fine Day," "Hey Girl" that Michael McDonald did in duet with Ray Charles on his last "Genius Loves Company" CD, "Snow Queen" that the Association recorded, "Chains" that the Beatles recorded, the lovely "Oh Not My Baby" that Carole re-recorded for her "Love Makes the World" CD & the lovely "Goin' Back" that the Byrds recorded. These tracks alone are worth the price of the CD. I suppose devoted fans will all have tracks that they wish had been included such as my favorite "One" from the "Simple Things" lp. But it is wonderful to have a digital version of "In the Name of Love," one of Carole's most beautiful melodies. "You Still Want Her" is one of the great torch songs from Carole's canon. "Passing of the Days" has one of Carole's most stunning and overlooked melodies. The sound quality is not quite up to the standards of some older songs that have been remastered, but is at least available here for the first time on CD. Enjoy!

VERY NICE COMPILATION OF FOUR KING ALBUMS

Unfortunately Capitol Records never released Carole King's 1977 LP "Simple Things", 1978's "Welcome Home" or 1979's "Touch The Sky" on Compact Disc. So I guess if it isn't possible for us to enjoy all of the tracks from those years, "Time Gone By" gives us a taste of her music during that time.

Actually King's material during the late 70's (specifically on these albums) became more rock oriented and lyrically addressed more environmental and social issues...this is certainly not for everybody and unfortunately she lost a great deal of her avid fans during this period. Still there are the ubiquitous King ballads...direct, simple and very sincere.

Also included in this set is the complete album of "Pearls: Songs of Goffin and King", her 1980 Capitol release. Here King reprises many of the hits which she and then-husband Gerry Goffin wrote during the 1960s. It is pure pleasure to hear her cover such classics as "One Fine Day" and "Locomotion" although strangely she includes tracks such as "Snow Queen", "I Wasn't Born to Follow", "Hi-De-Ho" and "Goin' Back" which she had actually previously recorded on other albums of her own. There were certainly other Goffin-King classics which she could have covered, nevertheless the album is a great listen.

a compilation from 1977 to1980

After her successful ode years, Carole King started a new period in her career and personal life. The best songs from her albums "Simple Things" (1977),"Welcome Home" (1978) & "Touch The Sky" (1979) are included in this compilation: songs like "In the name of Love", "Morning Sun", "You still want her" or "Time Gone By". Her album "Pearls" (1980)is also included here, a little bit different from the other three: all the songs from "Pearls" are songs by Gerry Goffin and Carole King , a must-have for all Carole King fans, because it's the first time we hear her sing such well known songs as "The Locomotion" or "One fine Day".A curious thing:Christopher Cross plays the guitar in a couple of songs.
