Actually King's material during the late 70's (specifically on these albums) became more rock oriented and lyrically addressed more environmental and social issues...this is certainly not for everybody and unfortunately she lost a great deal of her avid fans during this period. Still there are the ubiquitous King ballads...direct, simple and very sincere.
Also included in this set is the complete album of "Pearls: Songs of Goffin and King", her 1980 Capitol release. Here King reprises many of the hits which she and then-husband Gerry Goffin wrote during the 1960s. It is pure pleasure to hear her cover such classics as "One Fine Day" and "Locomotion" although strangely she includes tracks such as "Snow Queen", "I Wasn't Born to Follow", "Hi-De-Ho" and "Goin' Back" which she had actually previously recorded on other albums of her own. There were certainly other Goffin-King classics which she could have covered, nevertheless the album is a great listen.
