Classic Carly

Truly my favorite album of the 70's, Her voice is so beautiful,
especially on Friends Are More Than Fond Of Robin,
This really is sohisticated pop at it's best,

Great songs, great album cover!

A lot of great songs on this one. You're So Vain will always be one of my favorites. People still wonder who she was singing about in it. A lot of people think it's Warren Beatty but my guess is game show host Wink Martindale.



There was some controversy when this album came out because Carly isn't wearing a bra on the cover. I don't see why anyone got upset. There's a couple of things I really like about the picture!

She has no secrets,she tells her every fan everything!

This is Carly Simon's third album and her first #1. This album spawned four Top 20 hits. They are THE RIGHT THING TO DO,NIGHT OWL,the title track and the #1 smash YOU'RE SO VAIN which features background vocals of Rolling Stone Mick Jagger. The aforementioned songs would appear on THE BEST OF CARLY SIMON which is all previously released material. I went through two LP copies of this album. The destructive child I was in the 70's broke the first copy but I still have the second one which was purchased in 1981 along with an LP copy of TBOCS. But,the record(the vinyl itself) bears a few minor scratches. New York native Simon recorded this album in London in the fall of 1972. That same year,she married James Taylor and divorced him nine years later. YSV would be sampled for a song on Janet Jackson's ALL FOR YOU album,released in 2001. Simon makes a guest appearance saying phrases like,"Janet and me,we have clouds","the apricot scarf was worn by Mick"(referring to Jagger) and "if it wasn't for that damn cream there'd be no clouds in my coffee.". Jackson says,"You tell 'em,Carly!" The other songs are good.
